I'm planning on buying a Comptech Icebox to attach to the stock intake arm of my GS-R. Should I also plan on buying a Comptech filter to go with it? Or can I use another drop-in filter?

you can just use a k&n one (e-2427)

 

You can use any filter as long as it fits. A filter is a filter.

 

I am using my stock filter with an icebox on a 00 GSR

I would definitely buy a k&n filter or an equivalent since the stock filter media is restrictive. You pretty much lose the advantage of an intake when you use an aftermarket intake tube in juxtaposition with a stock filter.
