speedo works somtimes on EJ1 vehicle speed sensor?
i just picked up a 94 ej1 and somtimes the speedo goes crazy like when im at a light it will say im going 80 or somtimes it will just flat out not work. does this sound like the vehicle speed sensor and if so, does anyone have any pics of where it is located?
Check your VSS plug to make sure there isnt any fluid pooled in it. Believe it or not, thru swaps, or just time in general, the way the plug sits, it can pool fluids in the plug, which will kill the circut, causing the VSS to work sometimes or not at all. Take it out, drain it, let it dry and you should be set. Ive seen this case happen a few times before on HT
Its located on the topside of the tranny, back near the differential, by the starter. You can basically start at your throttle body, and go straight down, its in that area. It can be removed by its 10mm bolt(s).

VSS units have a white plastic "shield" which sometimes can get doubled up.
This causes a bad connection, but it will cause the ECU to throw a CEL #17 due to now VSS pulse.
If ECU is getting VSS pulse from tranny, but jumpy speedo, the speedo head in the cluster is dieing.
99% of all VSS issues end up with a CEL 17 and a dirty connection at the tranny, mostly due to road salt in the winter months.

Yeah, but he's saying no CEL + he swapped clusters and it's doing it with the second cluster.
