Default Changed and checked oil, oil is low and no leaks!

Here's the break down. I changed my oil today, and put 10w30 valvoline fully synthetic oil... Checked the manual and it said 3.5 quarts....so i filled 3.5 quarts...it was low so i emptied the half quart of oil that i had....took the car for a drive, and came back, checked oil and it is STILL low, and no leaks are evident. what could be the cause? It's a 92 civic hatch vx. the oil is not black or anything, its still the caramel color.

Please help....is it me or does my car take more than 3.5 quarts?!

i drained all the oil first, put the nut back on and the oil filter, then filled 3.5 quarts. and the dipstick is all the way in too...the car actually has 4 quarts now.

check your coolant.

and did you feel the clutch slipping?

the main seal could be leaking.

try to peak in your tranny, or take off your inspection plate and look for oil

Coolant level is normal, and the clutch is not slipping. Where is the inspection plate, and what is the main seal?

i let the car idle for a couple minutes and check the oil. i already have 4 quarts in there. the oil level should be between the 2 holes on the dipstick.... it is below the first hole right now...

Add oil until the dipstick shows the correct level, and then continue to monitor it at regular intervals.

Yes, your car does take 3.5 quarts of oil with a filter change. Your transmisson does not have an inspection plug. Some cars like older honda accords have a plug on the trans housing that you can pull out to see the flywheel. Yours however doesn't. Also, if the rear main seal, the seal around the crankshaft at the back of the motor, was leaking, it would be visible under the car if the oil level was that low. Checking the coolant was good. If it was milky looking, you could have had a blown headgasket. Not quite sure why the level is that low. Maybe burning it through the engine? Noticed any excessive blue smoke behind the car under acceleration?

plug? idk when i said that.but w/e

yea it does, its between the tranny and motor(under by oil pan), remove it and you'll see your flywheel. check for oil.

you should wait a while after the car is running to check the oil.... because it takes a while for oil to drain out of the head etc. dont worry.

best guess would be oil leaking past the pistion rings and/or valve guides leaking. so when your on your intake stroke the oil is getting sucked in from the valve past the valve guide
