Boot/Glove Recommendatios?
Hello everyone-
I was recently in a pretty bad wreck. I had on a leather jacket and helmet. Other than that I was in jeans and a pair of Nikes.
Stupid, I know. My right foot ended up getting squished to hell and back between the guardrails and the bike. Somehow nothing broke. My entire foot is one big bruise, but other than that it's fine.
Due to being thrown sideways off the bike my hands never touched. I ended up landing on my head/shoulder. Lucky again sort of....
So now I know I REALLY want a decent set of boots and gloves.
I'm looking for some input on some products that are currently using...or have used in a wreck and held up well.
Thanks in advance,
-Dennis

Dude glad your injuries were minor, how fast were you going? My buddy crashed twice at low speed with just a textile joe rocket jacket and astar full gloves and he walked away w.o a scratch both times.
I was going about 55 when my front tire went flat going around a corner. I lost it and ended up hitting head on with the guardrails. I was thrown from the bike and slid about 15ish feet down the asphalt.
About a mile before the wreck I swerved to miss a bail of hay in the road. About a quarter mile after the bail I saw a truck pulling onto a road that had bails of hay on a trailer.
After getting home I checked the tire and there was a huge staple in the tire. I'm assuming the staple came from the bail of hay. Maybe it was holding a strap or something around the bail.
I was on a '78 Yamaha XS1100. It held up pretty well for how bad the wreck was. I had to replace the entire front end pretty much. And I had to have my headers repaired.

You should def. invest in some boots though. Last summer I didn't put much thought into gear, just helmet and gloves, but after witnessing a lot of crashes and stuff I at least wear my jacket even though it is like 90degrees outside.
As for boots,

Whatever covers the ankles.

Everyone has their own recommendations and there's as many threads on the topic as there are choices out there. Do a search and you'll get a wealth of recommendations.
The bottom line is pick something that covers the ankles and wrists (gauntlet). What brand and type is really a matter of personal choice.

Dont listen to this guy. You need Held gloves and Daytona boots.
I think A* stuff is really good. Can't go wrong with Sidi boots and Setup's if you're on a budget.

i like my SMX+, the ankle bracing isn't the best, but at least it's there.
for around town i wear my setups. can't be mad at the price, and they did their job in a lowside at the track.
sidi B-2's are also great around town boots.
gloves: people like the A* GP line, i wear spidis, but need something with more protection for the track. the spidis have a knuckle guard and great stitching, but it needs MOAR CARBON FIBERZ/KEVLAR

I like them for running around town, and they don't look to bad under a set of jeans so I can get away with them at work. They are a little stiff but I'm hoping that will help in a crash. They are definatly better than the over ankle leather non motorcycle boots I was wearing before.

I rock A* boots... and they're not even pimpy ones... so there!

Daytona Boots are badass but too pricey for me.
I went with Sidi Vetigos.
Gloves: I'm rocking the AP* GP Techs. No real complaints...maybe the fingers are a bit long but I think I should have gotten a size smaller. Whatever glove you get, full gauntlets FTW.

I like my Sidi Vert 2's. They feel good to ride in, not fun to walk in....but they are not walking boots heh
I have had Teknik (Violator Pro II's) gloves, Spidi gloves (carbosint) and A*'s gloves (gp plus). So far I like the gp plus gloves better, I'm not an A*'s fan either, but these gloves seem to be well constructed and the liner on the inside keeps the leather from getting wet from sweat...which keeps the leather from getting brittle and rubbing a hole in the palm or finger area. Once broken in they are comfy too.

I like my A* SMX-4s. Comfy, easy to put on, and they don't squeak when you walk around. I have some cheap joe-rocket guantlets, I do have some A* SP1s, but I found them to be uncomfortable even after a few months.
Best gloves I've ever tried on or owned are made by a small little known company called 'Racer'. They are roo skin so they aren't cheap though they are slightly less than some of the big names with better quality and fit. I've been meaning to do a review just haven't had the chance. What do you guys think about the Sidi Strada Evo Tepor boots and A* Vega Drystar gloves??? I'm looking at them because of their waterproof abilities, I intend on using the bike for conmuting and I could be catching rain sometime, and I want something I could wear in all kinds of weather. Does it really matter if a product says "waterproof" or it's mostly marketing (I know I will get wet anyways, just wondering if "non-waterproof" gear will suffer damage).
I rock the sidi b2s which are great for around town and seem to have pretty good protection.
Just upgraded my gloves to the gptechs, wear them almost every day
