sorry to hear it man...
so i'm guessing the joe rocket textile held up fairly well in preventing road rash? i've had my joe rocket textile for a while, but haven't really worn it since i got it.
to a speedy recovery

I'm guessing you don't know the answer to it but was there something you hit that caused the blowout or was it just spontanious?

Good you're realtively okay.

which bike the f2 or the 929? Damn that sucks. Here's to a speedy recovery. Glad you made it out alright all things considered.

No rash on your lower body? Jeans or did you have on textile pants?

Wow glad you're alive.

I hope once you're recovered we can get some more info on what happened.

Were you conscious the whole time or did you get knocked out when you ejected?

Will be interested to hear if the tire failed on its own or struck something that opened it up. The Metzeler MEZ4's that came on my bike (and some other sport touring bikes) have some history of failing internally - Metzeler finally discontinued it. Hopefully you can share with us some details on the tire and what you think happened when you're feeling better.

oh ****

I've never heard of this. I wonder who touched it last. There is NO WAY it could have done that on its own. It had to have been under-tightened by whoever last touched it.

Heads should roll. Sometimes I wonder if I should be doing all my own maintenance. Not right now though.

Try to do the maintanance yourself if you can. I just got my tires changed about 2 weeks ago. I checked my front axle bolt after i rode it home just to make sure and sure enough i loosen it with little effort. Good thing i checked. So shops doesnt necessarily mean that its done correctly.

IMO it's still a waste of money. That could happen with a new bike as well, assuming you didn't do every but of maintenance yourself. The only way to prevent this from ever happening, new or used, is to check EVERYTHING out yourself. This should be a part of due diligence in buying a used bike but I'll be the first to admit that I'm guilty of not checking either.

I did a long ride on my new bicycle this weekend and the front axle was loose at the end of the ride. I could have easily lost a nut or worse if that thing few off. I put the front tire on myself after taking the bike home, so it would have been my own fault (didnt make it tight enough) so ignorance can bite you too..but theres no torque specs on the bicycle tire...

Were your friends riding with you? Did they notice anything funny about your bike before the mishap?

Sorry to hear about the asphalt-testing of your gear. I hope you heal up quick and get back on two wheels soon.

my friends rear axle bolt on his 929 did this; luckily he realized that the rear was acting funky before it was totally out.

i had a couple of friends ridding with me. they never never noticed it, nor did i.while looking at the bolt i noticed that there was no locktite on it. by time that i had noticed there was something wrong with my frontend it was too late. i managed to slow down and got off rode before i was ejected and the bike flipped. it sucks but i'l heal and get over losing money on the bike. next time around i'll be more caeful. be safe, wear your gear and do your preriding checks please

I've never heard of locktite on the axle bolts. Usually they just have a fair amount of torque and a pinch bolt or something.

I agree. Loctite on axle bolts would be a new one.

Vicodin will help with that.
