when it comes to body work, you do get what you pay for. and also make sure all the prep work is done to a T. as to good bad and middle, just go to a body shop supply store, and talk to the guys there, they are usually very helpful at these stores. Just let them know what you plan on doing and what you want out of the car, and they will point you in the right direction.. what is your location by the way??
i am in virginia... i know of an auto aint supply store that is close.. but i'm not sure if they have fillers... i think just paint and supplies.
another question!!!
-do you use the same filller on bumpers as on sheetmetal? oem bumpers with some scratches that need to be touched up!! tia

that auto body supply store should have the fillers you need.. and as for dents on such for plastic bumpers, you would, i believe, need a different filler for that.. its been awhile since i did some body work.. but either way check out that supply store they should have everything you need.
One more thing, the body supply shop is going to recomend two different types of fillers you will need.. you need both, one is for rough filling, and the other for finish.

Just go to the local automotive refinishing/paint store. Tell them what you are trying to do and answer the questions they ask... they will tell you what filler, primer, paint, clear, everything that is going to work best in your price range. They are called 'paint jobbers'. They do the thinking for you.. for free.
If you dont have a local paint supply, look into a brand called 'evercoat'.

Theres a couple kinds of fillers
Premium Filler what is simular to a light weight body filler but it will not sag, and theres a lot less talc inside
Light Weight filler, every body shop use's it its cheap and good,
Just make sure you use a polyester putty, other putty's will shrink and you will see it once you apply your top coats

Evercoat, Rage products are pretty popular. Talk to the people at the supply store. They should help you out.
Good Luck

I use evercoat fillers with great success. Marglass for heavy filling, rage for light filling, and metal glaze for the final detail/imperfections coat. These products are on the expensive side. Ask the supply salesman for cheaper alternatives.
I would research bodywork before you start into your project, it's a very skilled process. Good luck

Evercoats "Kitty Hair" for trunks and hoods and stuff, depending on the customers requests and how cheap they wanna go with it. Warnings come with these.
Evercoats "Rage Gold" for smoothing out minor surface flaws and onto of welds after they've been grounded.
Evercoats "Z-Grip" a cheaper version of Rage, works just as well for half the price. Little more pinholes though.
Evercoats "Metal Glaze" for minor chips and small stuff.

Theres a reason why its cheaper. Rage gold puts z grip to shame. Z grip gums up paper quicker, has more pinholes, fills less, and is much grittier. Its almost like they mix in bondo dust to give it volume.

That's why I put "cheaper version of RAGE", not Rage Gold. Even Rage has a lot of pinholes.

Yes,that stuff is the best. The reason is because it spreads alot better and easier to sand.that's because there is more resin(same as in fiberglass.I wouldn't recommend though going to a AutoZone for bodyfiller for your car.If you are on a budget, and want some pretty good Bondo, get some Evercoat. They have economic ones to the best one(rage).
a little tip to make your bondo to lay out better(if you get the economic one.Is to use some resin off of fiberglass(buy a quart and mix a little into your bondo, before putting hardner.
You'll then see the bondo will lay out better.Or you can put a little of polyester into your bondo too. That works out great. But I would just save the cash, and get a gallon of brand new Evercoat Rage.around$25-$30 depends what autobody store you go to.

I'm starting to hate this damn Z-Grip I've got. ****** more pinholes than my Rage Gold which I expected (friend bought me a gallon of Z-Grip)...
Can't throw it away, it's still pretty damn good for what it is and what it costs. Maybe I should just use it for smaller dings/skim work.
I've had to go over it twice with glaze to get all the pin holes. Oh well.
Anybody tried Rage Extreme yet? Looks pretty promising...
