FOX coverage to increase? How will it change the sport?
Just wanted to bring this up. The USGP at Laguna was covered by FOX (for those of you that didn't watch it, SHAME ON YOU) and it was the first time FOX has covered the GP live and I'm pretty sure they plan on covering both of next years USGP's.
How do you think network coverage of the GPs and AMA (if they ever do) will change our sport? Right now the only way to catch races is on SPEED.com or have something premium that comes with SPEED channel. If network coverage comes along that allows basic cable viewers to enjoy the sport, will sponsorships increase? More competition? Will the personality of racers be a factor for sponsorship for endorsements?
aaaaannnd... discuss.

yeah you could totally tell the dumbed down the commentary for first time followers. Like we really needed to know how important a footpeg is in turning or steering the bike. Commentator was like "Now I know a lot of you out there might be wondering why a footpeg would cause Hopkins to go to the pits but it really plays a huge role in the steering and balance of the bike"
Well NO ****!!!!

My bet, it won't catch on, it'll stay primarily on Speed.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Hell yes Euro Sport! I just recently started torrenting the GP races and the euro coverage absolutely demolishes ours. Not cause Ralph and Freddy are bad or anything, but because its just soo much more in depth. Not to mention they cover parctice AND qualifying too!

It was like watching someone try to explain the sport to a 5 year old...
then again, maybe they were just appealing to Fox's regular viewing audience?

I hated the coverage. The commentary was really dumbed down for road racing n00bz and too many damn commercials. This isn't NASCAR where they just go around in a boring *** circle for the whole race and you only car about the last few laps.

Agreed. My wife watched all of about 10 minutes of the race and even she said "wow, do they think we're stupid with the way they're explaining everything?"

Anybody looking for real technical insight from a race on TV is out of luck. Spencer is good, but Sheenan is terrible. That guy is always too excited and makes sure to mention "On the monster energy Kawasaki" or "Mazada Raceway Laguna Seca" like his very life depended on it. Not much better than the sufer/skater call guys we typically get.

There would be no pro racing without advertising.. Sheenan isn't getting paid to plug these companies and doing so just helps the sport.

Actually that's exactly what he gets paid to do.
