Default sticking idle

89 crx dx. when ever my car heats up the rpm's will stick. its hard to explain but ill try my best. if im crusing and have my foot barely touching the accelerator pedal the rpm's will raise from 1000-2500 and stay like that until i put my foot under the pedal and lift up on it. then the rpm's drop to normal idle. it will also drop if i slam the pedal down to the floor for a second. has anyone had this problem before? i though it was the aicv but it dosent sound right if i have to manualy lift the pedal up to make the rpms drop. any info would be great. thanks

hard to say, take off your IACV and clean it really well, may be clogged

ive got the same problem on my 89 si. i dunno what it is. if i clutch in after the car has been running and warmed up it stays around 2000-2500rpm. if its colder out it does not do it as much but if it is a hot day it actually runs much higher rpm. then i put my foot under the pedal and it goes down till i touch the accelorator again. tried lubing the cable, and that helps a very tad bit for a day or so... any ideas?

I had this problem and kinda still do. Other issues exist in my case so this may help you.

First, the throttle body plate stuck a bit never letting it close quite right. I pulled the throttle body and cleaned it using throttle body cleaner and some brake cleaner. Closes much better solved some of my problem.

Here is where I have most of my problems. The actual cable sucked. What I mean is that my housing was cracked at the plastic "helper" at the firewall. Trace your cable back from the TB to the firewall and look to see if the plastic piece there is snapped. If it is then you probably get a lot of friction with the cable and it doesn't return right. I also took the cable apart and got some graphite from AutoZone and shot down it to help it smooth out. You can also try some teflon bicycle chain lubricant as well (light weight stuff).

These seemed to help my situation some. I also played around with how the cable was setup on the TB as well.

Now I could move on to the hypothetical... I think I may be having problems with my throttle position sensor. After I cleared up all those issues that I listed above, if I hold the throttle open by hand just a tiny amount the engine does a weird thing like it is missing.

Hopefully, checking those areas will get you rolling better. If your situation pans out like mine let me know as I have been spending some time trying to clear it all up!

Mike
