Default gsxr1000k6 ride impressions version: blows my rc51 out of the water

guy came over to help me out with my rc51. my right radiator is leaking and I wanted to check some things for straightness. Well, he rode on over with his gsxr1000k6 street/track bike and offered to let me take it up the main road about a little bit so of course I jumped at the opportunity

Very first impression - omg... the seat is comfy and the riding position is kind've comfy too, bike is soooo much skinnier then the rc51, and the whole bike is so much more compact. Start her up and baby it up the street to the main road as this is my first time on a 1000 i4 and first time back on a bike since my wreck. I get on the road and my next impression is just how smooth this thing is. He did warn me to be easy in 1st cause about 4000 rpm it'll wheelie if I'm on it hard at all. Unfortunately I didn't get to do any real turn but I can tell that it turns in a lot quicker and is deceiving cause I hit about 80 mph in no time when babying the throttle. The brakes felt amazing too. Absolutely everything about this bike impressed me even though I just rode it for about 6 miles or so.

Now I must state his is modded and the suspension was setup for the same weight as me but damn.... I'm very tempted to put a for sale on the rc51 come this winter once it's fixed, cut my losses and get a gsxr750. The 1000 is way too much obviously but it gave me an impression of what the others will be like. He says he ends up doing wheelies down the straight at summit main cause any little bump kicks up the front. Plus he ends up spinning up the rear quite often come out of the turns.

Most of the I-4 1000's are monsters. I used to own a TL1000r Suzuki, and although it was an amazing bike, it outright failed in comparison to my friend's 2005 R1. I had never owned anything other than a twin (both parallel and V), until I bought my Honda... I must say that my little C-ber has impressed me as well. The 4cyl bikes are very smooth compared to the twins, and can be deceptively fast as a result of it. I am not 100% certain, but I am fairly confident that my little 600rr could put up a darn good match to my TL1000r on acceleration, and absolutely smoke it on handling. I never thought I would own a 4cyl sportbike, but now that I have one, I am quite pleased.

I've only had v-twin sportbikes but ridden some other 600's and this bike just blew everything else out of the water. slightly unfair since the 1000 has way more low end but I'm thinking the 750 might be real nice... ack wish I had more money...

RC51 vs. K6... that isn't fair at all Isn't that like the worst 1000cc still in production vs. the best?

750 is a great bike, probably the perfect bike if you're just doing track days. If you ever plan on racing make sure you check out the clubs in your area because atleast around here 750 classes are pretty small (obviously with only 1 manuf.) and are not competative in open classes unless you're really good.

no it isn't a fair comparison but it's all I had to compare it to unless you wanted me to compare it to my old superhawk. lol

IF and IF I go for a 750 I don't think I'd race it. If I am to race at some point the sv650 is what I'd probably look at.

1 liters just seem like way too much and really raises the bar for being able to handle them. Don't know if the 750 is really any better. I would probably keep the RC, at the end of the day its a cool bike, GSXRs are fairly common.

Yea they are fairly common especially on the racetrack and there is a reason for that. If you ride a bike because it is "unique" then you ride for the wrong reasons

eh I wouldn't say that... I love the rc51 cause it is unique and it's a lot of fun to ride. BUT, a gsxr or cbr600rr or something would be faster for sure. I think a lot of it depends on your goals and what makes you happy. There's a reason some guys stick with v-twins, ducatis, and triumphs.

Very true, a lot of people love riding twins, my friend races Ducatis and I respect that. If you like riding your RC51 then that's great, but to keep it just because it is rare and gixxers are a dime a dozen is pretty stupid. If you are faster and have more fun on a certain bike it shouldn't matter how many there are and how many stigmas are attached to it.

I've come in hot on plenty of turns and prayed to God that no one was coming at me on the other side. I think ME+1000=DEAD. It's an awesomely powerful bike but isn't the 600 just as smooth and fun to carve with? If not funner?

i actually noticed no difference what so ever between my '03 600rr and 01 929 as far as handling.

Infact, i get the 929 much lower and ride much harder than the 600, i have become a better rider and went from pilot sports to pilot powers over the years though so that has something to do with it.

My buddy just sold his 05 gixxer thousand just because the thing is too fast. It's useless for the street (just too much power) and unless you are a seasoned track rider/club racer, it's probably too much power for the track as well. It's small, light, fast, super agile, and stops on a dime. No character though, that's for sure, just a pure racing machine.

I have to disagree with it being useless for the street. It was very comfortable to ride in the lower rpm band. You don't have to wind it out to get moving so that makes it very practical for the street. Now if you try and wind it out like a 600 then yeah it's a freaking monster.

to me 1000's are better for the street cause you don't have to rev the **** out of it to get some torque.

i miss my liter bike, i definately dont think it was too much power for me even after regearing it. i enjoyed the fact that i could manipulate the wheelspin with the power easier than on the 600 too, cause sometimes that saves you.

and hey engine if you think that bike was smooth, ride the 1000rr honda pisses on suzuki in quality there. i hate my gsxr because the f'n thing vibrates so much. the 1000rr motor feels like it's electric.

I'd love to test ride a 1000rr but don't know anyone with one. I was extremely surprised my friend let me try this out. We were just chatting about other bikes and he was like you wanna take this for a spin? I tried not to jump on it too quickly

No. For several reasons. You clearly didn't read what I said. 2nd, I don't want a gsxr1000. 3rd, I don't want a k5 either, the new frame is 10x better. 4th, even if I did want one, I definitely wouldn't want that one.

K5 is exactly the same as K6

sry I'm thinking of the 600 and 750. I still don't want a k5.

A coworker of mine needed to get his motorcycle endorsement so he traded me his GSX-R1000K5 for my scooter for a few hours.

I took it out on a back road and was amazed. 98 (indicated) in first gear and 180 (indicated) on a 2 mile straightaway, and I still had another gear to shift into.

I don't need that kind of power anymore.
