Default 03 Yamaha R1: First Impressions

I was at my local motorcycle dealership today in NYC just checking out the showroom full of new 03" bikes. It was at this dealership on 11th Ave and like 48th streets or so.

I sat on the ZX6RR, ZX6R, and the R1....

The funny thing I notice is that obviously since its a sportbike the riding position is kinda forward faced reclining....ya know like race position. I positioned myself on the bike as if I were gonna drive it and noticed that on a ZX6R, I felt a bit cramped.
with my legs brushing up on the side of the bike, I felt I had no room to stretch.

On the other hand when i sat on the R1 it felt much more comfortable for me.

I'm 6'0 tall and was wondering if any of you who are 6'0 tall + feel any discomfort or crampiness on your 600cc sportbikes?

Just by felling out how comfortable the bikes were, I liked the R1 better...

Humm, maybe its just my little excuse to go for a 1000cc bike over a 600cc

Dood i say it over and over again but people still argue with me. My favorite 600cc bikes is the ZX-6R but it is the most uncomfortable bike made.

Both GSXR and the F4i are comfortable. My friend ins 6'3" 195 and he loves his Gixxer 600. All the 600cc bikes are more comfortable than the zx6r, trust me. If you dont believe me, sit on em and find out.

Actually, I do agree with you on the uncomfortableness of the 03 ZX6R.

I have sat on the GSXR600 and find it pretty comfortable. When I was at the dealer yesterday, one lucky guy was taking delivery of his blue 03 ZX6R, and I noticed that he was about my height too.

i like the GSXR600 but think that next year it'll be redesigned.... ohh btw the dealer had a 40th anniv model GSXR600 in the showroom which looked pretty sweet..

You think the Gixxer is comfortable? For sure, Honda has the worst seat, but the Gixxer isnt too far behind. My friend has an 03 R1 (on Ebay now, bc he wants a gixxer 1k). That bike is sick power. Too much for me

Ok I think the first problem is associating comfort with sportbike. Its a sportbike, its not meant to be super comfortable. I have a friend that is 6'2'' and he rides his gixxer6 fine. Its a pretty bad idea to get an open class bike just because it "feels" more comfortable. I can guarentee it wont feel too great when you're laying in the hospital or worse.
