amp not powering subs why?
Okay so I am trying to figure out, all of a sudden, why my amp is not working. I have had my set-up up for about a year now and it includes:
2- kicker L7's
1- 3000W class d power acoustik amp
1- 3 farad capacitor
1- 150w circuit breaker
1- 50x4 channel kicker amp
So both amp's are being powered through the cap and is seperated by a distribution block...I noticed that the 4 channel amp is still providing sound through my component speakers, but not my class d amp for my subs. As of now the class d amp sounds operational (the green light is on too), but there is no sound being produced through my two subs. I noticed one corner of my class d amp is way hotter (where you insert the power, remote, and ground wires at). I also notice that when my amp tries to get power from my cap the wattage reading would drop significantly until it reads zero. I think it's my amp not working properly and if so does anyone know of a amp repair shop around the dc metro area? I don't feel like buying another, tell me what you think Thanx!

I don't think it is a loose ground wire because if that was the case it would be turning on and off. Sounds to me like your rca inputs sections of your amp board is shorted out or possibly your speaker outputs are bad on the amp.....
Ok so I tried to bypass the capand ran the power wire into the amp. As soon as I powered the amp, the amp's light that turns green when it's working fine instead gives off a red light, and then the amp power's off and on afterwards...the ground is fine and well grounded as well.
I think there is an internal problem because while the amp is on, it overheats and gives off a weird smell that smells like something is fried within the amp....

if you can smell something funky...it's probably time for a new amp.
also...what brand and gauge wiring do you have running everything???
ps...looks like fcm is gettin mighty close to the big 10K mark.
