vtec problem!!!
ok so i have a 00 civic si with intake headers and exhaust installed at the moment. all of a sudden when i hit vtec the car runs like it is having air flow problems, vtec kicks in when it feels like it, it feels as if the car is holding itself way back and the only time it pulls hard is from 75k to 81k... i thought this problem was just the stock p2t ecu since they are faulty ecus and trigger codes and honda even had a recall on them in some places.. today i got my chipped ecu from phearable.net with my obd1 conversion harness and plugged it in. the car sounded much better and i took it for a spin. the car ran alot better, but the same problem was occuring in vtec.. so obviously it was not the ecu doing it.. i unplugged the wire to the vtec solonoid then ran my car again. it ran much better!! i heard that vtec soloniods either work or they dont, there is no in between? what do you guys think is the problem? could it be a map sensor??
sorry this is so long and i really appreciate positive feed back

sounds like everything is normal. usually if there are CEL, vtec will go into limp mode and will not operate. being that you do not have any CEL, you are fine.
the 00 civic si has a B16A2. it lack the torque umph you are looking for.

with the solenoid you can pull it off and put 12v to it and watch it open and close then you will have to check cause I am not sure which way it is but one side will either have a constant vlotage or a constant ground and the other side is switched so make sure that which ever it is that you are getting what you are supposed to then make sure you are getting good oil pressure vtec requires 4 things to kick in 57 psi of oil pressure
operating temp
must be moving at least 11 mph
and of course meet the rpm requirments
make sure all these things are good before moving on. cause of these things it is really hard to test them but really the only way to is run a wire or two from your pressure sensor make sure that it is closing at 57 psi and while driving you will have to get something running in the car from the solenoid to get your meter on to take voltage readings and ground readings from while vtec is active but some where in there you should find your problem

i checked the solenoid screen and it was way dirty.. i broke it pulling it out but cleaned it still to see how dirty it was. i am going to get a new one in the morning and hopefully that will fix this problem.. thanks to everyone!
also will a gsr solenoid fit on a b16?
