Default Accessory Slot doesn't work

In my 05 civic, the accessory slot stopped working. I installed foglights a month ago. The accessory slot worked fine after I did the install, so I doubt that it is directly at fault. I think that the wire connecting to the slot may have come loose. Does anyone know of a good way to access the wire without taking off the trim pieces. I took the trim pieces off when I installed the foglights and having pulled hard on them, one of the pieces have a white line (meaning it's about to break).

By accessory slot do you mean the accessory outlet? If so, check the fuse in the underdash fuse box. It goes out all the time.

If the fuse is fine check for power to the outlet with a test light. If there is no power, check to make sure it is plugged in. The plug can come loose, I have seen it a few times on '02 & '03 Civics. If it is plugged in, replace the outlet. It is not very expensive (maybe $25?).

You will have to remove the trim to replace the outlet or make sure it is plugged in. If you have had problems with that I would get a Helms to see how to do it.

Sorry for the late response. Use a test light to check the outlet. Place the probe against the back of the outlet (not on the connector side, but through the front of outlet where you plug in your accessories). The door striker usually makes a good ground for a test light in case you were wondering. I would be willing to bet you will find the test light won't light up and your outlet is bad.

If it does light up, then whatever you are plugging in is bad.
