Default *help* cant jump ecu code

right now i have a cel that is preventing me from getting a tune.
i am on hondatas200. motor is h22a4 with p28 obd1 harness and obd1 distributor.
i tried to stick a paper clip in the service connector and everytime it just makes the CEL light go away but it never flashes. also sometimes it makes the srs n abs light go on.
since that way didnt work, i downloaded hondatalogger to see if i can check my CEL through laptop. i get everything hooked up to find out that there is "connection error". i re dl everything n try it on 2 other laptops..same thing happens, error.
so i need help on 2 things here.
1)why doesnt the light flash?
2)why is there connection error when attempting to hook up s200 to laptop? software required?

from the way you wrote that, sounds like you are jumping the connector with your ignition already in start position? i'm not sure if that would change anything but try jumping the connector, then stick your key in and switch to on.

take the cover off the underside of the ecu and see if you see any burns on the board.

i would say test a known good ecu. with hondata it comes with software when you buy from them so my guess is software why you cant connect.

try jumping again w/ a diff conductor.. paperclip didnt work for me but stripped telephone line did (copper ends) and u have to have it in delicately to make sure theres a connection.
lol i was thinking of wetting the ends just a tiny bit but it worked so i dint have to. and thats prob a bad idea
