an h22 is very torquy! they are alot of fun... one of my friends has one in his EK hatch... LS/VTEC is fun to build, but I think you would be happier with an H22.. what are your plans for the car later on?

FIRST THING: Stop typing in ******* caps-lock, damn... an h22a will give you ~200hp/160tq, ls-vtec will be less (depends what kinda motor you get). an ls-vtec like a b18b is perfect for boost -- low compression. a V-tec head VS no-vtec head diffy is minimal.

How could you possibly give advice if you don't know what his plans are for the car/usage?

I've seen 173whp on a DynoJet Dyno in a civic hatch with a B18b bottom end and a B18c1 head with just pistons and rods.....everything else was stock....

You've been working on honda's since you were in the 7th grade?

Hard to believe, Especially since you "assumed" that all ls/vtec have 170whp, but Okay.

OP:

Before we continue at all, we need to know these:

Your know-how
Budget
Preference
Time
access to tools/mechanics
Daily driven? Track?

Etc, anything that could help us determine an answer for YOU.

well my plans are pretty much simple I want a reliable DD that will be fun to drive. I love the torque of a H series but if i can get that kind of power outta a ls-v for less money then it wouldn't be a bad idea. My budget is pretty much open I mean I'm not rich but I would be able to spend around 3-5k to get everything said and done. I dont plan on building the block because I know after I do that the part's list get's endless. So im thinking around 300whp just to drive around...Is that too much to ask for a DD?
