Hey all I just out in my newly built b16. I have forged 10.5:1 pistons. block guard, type r oil & water pump. and gsr cams. I just started it up today, didi the 20 min. 2 grand period, and timed it. I noticed that I had a little black smoke coming out the tail so I did a leak down test. All my cylynders are holding air @ 60%, and the leak is coming out the crank case. I was wondering if!!! do I need to just cycle the motor , or are my rings just fucked up! Any info would be very helpfull thanx!
After you put the block guard in did you have the cylinder walls honed.
Those things are notorious for ovaling out the cylinder walls.
Should have just spent the money for sleeves. Willing to bet that the block guard is your problem.

lmao at people assuming you didnt build you're own motor!!!!!
he ment hone did you hone your motor, we understand that you resurfaced the block guard and deck i also how you did your head
did you expletive up a ring on the installation of the pistons?
piston ring gap did you clock them out and 90 degrees from both wrist pins?
did you do the 0-25 slowly then rip it to 50 semi quickly then back down proper break in procedure
