Custom Paint codes/ mixes
I know you looked at the title and got all worked up and in flame mode, but wait this is a REAL question.
I want to get a custom paint code mixed up for my EJ1. I am looking at getting a solid color with no flakes or pearls mixed in. Sounds pretty simple right? No when I go to the auto paint store and ask them how I would get a custom color like this mixed the automaticly go, "What's the code". I don't know because I don't think its ever been put on a car. So now what? They have the PPG line that I want but I don't know what to tell them to get the color I want.

It's gonna be kinda rough just telling them to mix you a color, in the long run it'll just waste money on their part, they may not see it as a great idea to just throw a bunch of paint together trying to get the color you want. If you get a paint code for a similar color and tell them you want it "more orange" or "more yellow" or whatever, they may be able to help you out there. Or you could buy a bunch of different toners and start creating your own color
Do you have a sample of the exact color you want?
I work at a home paint store and I can tell you that it takes someone with a lot of talent and experience to come up with a custom color. Its not as simple as throwing together what you think will work. It can take a long time of shooting, mixing, drying, shooting, mixing, drying, etc etc to get it exact. A lot of places don't want to do that for someone walking in off the street that may only buy one gallon.

Exactly, it's a waste of time and money for them.

Read what we wrote, you cant just walk into a supplier and say "I wants a custom green pearl that nobodys ever seen before, mix it up and call me when you're done." Maybe Chip Foose could do that for you, but your everday ordinary paint supply store probably won't (that's why they want a paint code). They don't want to sit there and just throw toners together trying to get a custom color that you will be pleased with, it's a waste of money.
Maybe try to find a custom paint shop, talk to the owner or the painter, and try to work something out.

Dude time is money. If you don't have the hook-ups to get a custom color mixed for free, you have to pay to play. You have to get off your lazy ***, call around, find someone who will provide you with the service. Try calling a paint supplier, they might do it or refer you to someone who could.

Thanks, I looked it up in the yellow pages and got nothing. I guess I'll just keep my eye out for a car with a custom paint job on it and hope the guy will tell me where he got it done. People around here are kinda asses about that kinda stuff. Well thanks for all the help.

your pictures didn't show up.
I just don't understand why we have forums to ask questions when everyone who asks a question about something gets talked **** to. Seriously only like 1/3 of the questions that I ask on here actually help. And when I search and find other people asking the same questions all I find is that guy just gets flamed for asking a question.
Most honda enthusiasts have the worst attitudes. Subaru guys are more helpful about honda questions than honda people.
