D15B2 Oil pressure light
just rebuilt my D15B2 in my civic and every thing is up to specifications, Bearings size checked the oil pump and all other parts. engine starts up runs fine but after about 10-15 minuets the oil pressure light comes on. I killed the engine and checked the oil and its looks clean and good. after the engine cools down i start it again. no oil light till after 10-15 minuets again. there seems to be a lot of pressure in the valve cover when i take off the oil filler cap so i checked to make sure all crank case pressure lines were hooked up properly.
any thoughts or has any one run into this before?

I would recommend you get an oil pressure gauge and check to see what the pressure really is. You can pull out the send unit in the block and put in a line to a gauge. You should be getting 40+ psi, even when it's warm, at idle.
It sounds to me like your pressure is probably just barely enough when it's cold and when it's warmed up it drops to zero, or as close to zero as you can imagine.
If you run it like it is, you'll end up scoring the bearings, journals, rings and everything else.
When you replaced everything, did you put in a new oil pump, also. I've gotten to where if I do all of the other things I replace the oil pum, as well, because I had a experience very similar to what your describing.

Figured it out... i asked an old shade tree mechanic after asking every one including the local honda dealer. the mechanic said that in the oil pump there is a pressure valve that some times sticks. i just droped the oil pan and used a magnet to pull the check valve out it was stuck pretty good up in the pump i cleaned it and the place where it goes installed it with some lubercant and put it back to gether. its been running ever since with no problems now oil light.... if any one else runs into this problem check the pressure valve in the oil pump before spending a bunch of money on a few oil pump.

I gotta check that out when I get to work tues. I have a v6 accord I just put a motor in and it's doing the same exact thing even after cleaning out the oil pick up. I have not heard of a check valve in the o.p yet, good info

I dont know much about the v6 Honda's to know if they work the same way im guessing they do. let me know how it works out for ya... the mechanic that told me how to fix the problem said that it usually happens when the motor has sat some where for a long time with old oil in it. so if you engine was sitting for a while that might be what caused the plunger to freeze up in the oil pump.
