Default state referee appointment HELP!

Ok fellow members I need your help. After five years of having the Tanabe Super Medallion Hyper exhaust I got a ticket. I'm so pissed of since I feel I'm just getting picked on since I have an import. I tried to plead my case saying I don't believe that it's that loud plus I never see trucks or Harleys geeting cited for their exhaust. Anyways I'm trying to fight this ticket so I have an appointment tomorrow with the referee. I understand that if it's below 95 decibals I should be okay. The problem is I'm worried that it might not pass. I know that on the exhaust there should be a code that Tanabe puts but I checked and I can't find it. Anyways if you guys and girls have any suggestions as to what I should watch out for tomorrow it will be greatly appreciated. I don't post much but I know that if I need help this is the place to come.

I was sent to a smog ref back in 2001, but I just went straight to the courts and paid the full fine instead... not sure if you can still do that, but might want to look into it...

...come to think of it, how the hell did I get away with that?

I assume since you're asking, you don't have the stock one laying around? I've seen a couple ITR axlebacks in the classifieds recently...

I'd be worried what would happen if you didnt pass tomorrow...??

all that will happen is if you fail you can ask for a retest and find some other itr or integra exhaust that is stock and put it on or even yet do it before you see the ref.

i have a jdm axle back sitting in my room at my parents house. im not home but i will be friday night depending on where you are located i can try and get it to you before the ref does

Thanks for the help. Damn, I couldn't sleep last night since I was worried I was going to fail. I went to my appointment and I passed with a 95.2 and I got a certificate of compliance to take to court. I'm so glad that is done and over with

Congratulations. It's not often that you hear of someone fighting the system, and winning. Even though this is a rather mild case, it's still fun to win.

This is the best they can come up with? Spend all this time and money on testing and ticketing exhausts?

It's infuriating! Especially since the OP pointed out how Harley's & choppers get away with this... the system is broken...

expletive the ref. got a ref ticket and i just paid it off online.. $528. but if its just an exhaust ticket either its a fix-it or straight fine.. for a fact i know its a fine here in Glendale 818 because i already got my 2nd exhaust ticket and it cost $190 both times.

and i also got a ticket/ref for my carb legal intake that didn't have a hose on it and i didn't feel like putting my cars cat back on and all that crap just to get it to pass smog so i just paid the fine which was $528 w/ exhaust citation also.

how much was the vc 27156(v) fine just by itself without the exhaust fine. I think im going to just pay the fine if it is like $300-350 cause there is no way in hell im pulling my motor just to pass a state ref inspection. All the cop could site me for was my f-ing adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Everthing else had C.A.R.B. stickers but i know my cams and pistons won't let me pass a Ref Smog.

Exactly. Funny thing is i got a REF ticket in June and paid the fine b/c I didn't have a stock manifold and cat, or ecu. (i was ticketed for non-c.a.r.b. header) I was profiled for "loud exhaust" when I was stopped at a stop sign at idle. Once my hood was popped the cop cited me and said, "if you were driving a camaro w/ no front plate and exhaust, i WOULDN'T have looked twice." wow, can you say vehicular profiling? he proceeded to tell me that it's cars like ours that are causing street racing deaths. Yeah, that part is partially true, but, did he catch me in the act of racing? NOPE. Po-Po

Was that including a loud exhaust fine also or just the "VC 27156(b)" emission mod fine? Im actually gonna try and get my car bared by the ref so i won't have any problems in the future. If that don't work, then i guess i'll just pay the fine.

Just emission. He pulled me over for modified exhaust, but didn't cite me for it b/c he'd already popped my hood and saw the header. I guess he figured he was being nice for only citing me for modified emissions.

sorry to bring this thread back, but im curious about a couple of things. first you said you only passed the dba level with a 95.2? i found this information on the dmv website that says it cant be louder than 80dba... link included below.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27206.htm

also did you have to pay for anything at the referee station? or is it state funded if you are required to get inspected? and did you still have to pay the $10 clearance fee for the supposed "fix-it ticket".

reason im asking is because i just got cited for VC.27150(a) (Loud Exhaust) and VC.27156(b) (smog device). as for the loud exhaust, i know the cop was just ******* with me cuz i was in a honda and i have my stock stuff but i dont think i need to put it on because my exhast isnt really that loud in the first place, i believe it is under the 80dba limit. by searching online i read that 80dba is equal to a loud factory, and 90dba is equal to niagara falls. but the smog device thing he wrote me up for was because of my breather tube that goes to my intake. i explained to him i installed it per jackson racings instructions by drilling the hole in the airbox and threading a 1/2" npt fitting into it and connecting the hose, but he said "NO, thats illegal"

im just worried that i have to fight to not have to pay for the ref inspection, so i want to get all information ahead of time before i go in. oh and i forgot to mention that if you didn't notice... i have a jackson racing super charger on the car, but i have my carb sticker posted.... basically my car is 100% legal, the cop just didn't know what he was talking about. thanks for any help guys. sorry for long post :D

state ref charges $30 inspection fee and like $9 certificate fee, if you fail the first time, the 2 time around there's no $30 inspection fee.
