After the recent demise of my coupe, I need a new car. I've been building a JFK like vitara D16 setup, 57trim, lots o' boost barely breaking through 400whp and trying to see that 10.99 flash just once with a single cam.
I've always loved Del Sols, and I think I would like to get one now that my EK is gone. So, here are my questions.
1) Is anyone using one as their drag car? Is there a reason why not, or it just wasn't considered?
2) Cages... I should only need a 6pt. Possible in a Sol? I don't see why not, but I figure I'd ask.
3) 1997 EK. Are the suspension components the same as on a 97 del sol? Will a traction bar for a 92-00 Civic fit on the Del sol chassis as well?
4) Is there anything they will be particularily worried about going through tech with a sol?
Just trying to do my research before I spend my money, I don't want to get a car that won't be practical to use.

I'm not sure but I Think the del sol is extremely heavy
. Your going to need more than 400hp to crack the 10 second mark in a del sol..

This coming from someone driving a CRX.
Curb weight is around 2350 or so as far as I've seen, my EK coupe was heavier. Either way, 400whp in a sol is going to put me below 11.49 on a good run so it's going to need a cage... which is what I'm most concerned about.
Bense you drive a bubble, I don't want to hear it.

Can be cool street cars however.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Try again, they were made till 1997, which is also when they had the Del Sol VTEC which came equipped with all sorts of goodies and the B16A2.
Bottom line, I'm going to go fast enough to need a cage, even if I have to just swap to a Bseries.
Caging is my biggest issue. Has anyone done it, does anyone have one to show me?

My condolences.
My biggest complaint after owning a delSol for 12 years, is that the chassis works like a giant leaf spring, as the only continuous metal from front to rear is the 2-ply steel floor, which flexes like a *****. I'm quite sure a cage would remedy this however.
I still love driving it though, because there's little top weight (roof is 22 lbs) you can get the c/g so low, it handles just like a overgrown go-cart. It surprised quite a few people at local auto-x's.
