Now I don't have a mini-me, but Y8 is TOTALLY the way to go. An A6 distributor lines up perfectly with it as well - just get a port & polish job and that baby will pump out more power than a p&p'd Z6. More agressive cam, along with a higher compression ratio. No question about it.

I don't think that the SOHC VTEC head will fit on the early D15/EW4 block. From what I understand the engine is completely different than the D15/16 for 88 - up.

Y8.. the distributor makes it worth it.

not to mention a Y8 head is only 23-30 bucks more.

as far as wiring, im getting my Zdyne d18a6 to d16y8 retuned ecu in about a week.
1 wire to the vtec solenoid and it runs.
Bill at Zdyne also tells me that the activation point is at 4800 rpm and the red line is 7800.

only drawback is that the ecu price is about 350 with shipping both ways. ?

isn't it better to get a separate VTEC controller, that way you can change the VTEC engagement point.?
I'm sure there are some that are way cheaper than the VAFC.
Is the ECU mapped for your engine with the Y8 head?
Is it a general map for it or a specific map for you car?
Maybe hondata is a better option to get it tuned to your specific application.

Not trying to burn just trying to see the reason because I was thinking hondata so it can be mapped if any other changes are made...

you mean i had VTEC and didn't even know it? I had a 97 ex coupe and never really paid attention to whether it did or not. My wife drove it most of the time and it was an automatic anyway. I cant go out and look now, because when she walked out on me she took the car! oh well, I like my 91 better anyway!

Its also in some Del Sols...i think that they only came in them form 96 to 97. My gf has a 96 Del Sol with a y8....love to drive it and from what ive heard the vtec kicks in a little earlier because of the different ecu in the Del Sol(sort of like how the Del Sole VTEC ECu is better than the Si's). But dont quote me on that.....i read it in the Del Sol forum so you never know. HAHAHA.

the engagement point is pretty low at 4800 but. i have a spoon vtec controller that i will repin to work with the zdyne ecu, that will give me engagement point controll
this is from their website:

"Unlike all other "B16 retunes" the ZDYNE B16 One Wire Conversion comes complete with VTEC solenoid control built into the ECU. Full VTEC operation with sensitivity for water temperature and throttle position. Fuel and ignition curves are doubled and recurved for correct operation of VTEC and non-VTEC modes. Road tested and now dyno tested to within 1 peak HP of B16A JDM ECU! "

of course mine is an a6 block with a y8 head but it was explained to me that the y8 reprogram will cover these same things.

i got a Z6 on ym car....
using a PG7 integra ecu wich has a better fuel map, since i am using a MSD RPM activated switch as a vtec controler.... using the stock tranny and it sruns great... beat any Si with I/H all day .. i am pleased... and soon have a custom turbo......
anyways..... a Y8 can use a 4G distribuitor easy. the Z6 needs onlya little drilling and still can be moved and adjustted..... and if u want any type of boost, get the Z6, wich has lower compression, in wich NO2 or turbo works fine , by just adding, forged pistons, rods, titanium valves and springs+retainers....peace....

Would you guys say that getting a z6 or y8 head is basically the same as a a6 head with a port and polish done in terms of HP? Or would the a6 with a complete job done to the head more than likely will give better results. I'm talking changing the compression, 3 angle valve job and porting the intake and exhaust ports.
