hm. sounds like the scratches are pretty deep. try wetsanding the major areas with a fine grit sandpaper then using your orbital buffer to buff it out.

Instead, try and tell us what orbital buffer your using and what products your using and Myself or someone else such as Lastdetail or E-rok can lend you some advice.

Man, i wouldnt recommend wetsand right away... Id probably say go to a higher cut compound first.

What color is the car? Im guessing its black... Try to get some Turtle Wax rubbing compound, then turtle wax polishing compound, then get some meguiars light cut finishing compound, the scratch-x stuff works really good (Someone on here recommended it to me).

Its going to take you a looonnngg time to do it, took me about 30 minutes to do a small section of my hood where a stray cat fell off. Dont rush it and itll turn out good.

The deeper swirl marks/ light scratches need to be completely buffed out. Then follow that up with a high quality polish compound and a tool designed to polish. The machine buffing micro abrations need to be completely removed with the polishing step. Wet sanding should not be necessary, if the marks are not deep scratches. I use 3m final finish easy clean up polish, works really well.

Accually I don't use a rotary buffer to polish. I use a random orbit, dual action, high rpm polishing tool w/ the 3m polish.

It's funny how everyone recommends the most abrasive methods first.

Heany cut rubbing compound, wetsanding (which causes hazing and marring that cannot be removed by a $20 random orbital 12" buffer)

Sometimes the least agressive methods are all you need to remove the swirling....
