2 Quick Questions (B16A2 Related)
So I have a few little quirks and was wondering if anyone had any advice for me.
#1: Check Engine Light
I have a header, high flow cat, and catback. Check engine light was on after these mods so I put and oxygen sensor extender on the sensor in the cat. This made my check engine light go off until I would change the oil. After the first drive on fresh oil, it would come on. I'd un-hook the battery, and it would stay off another 3K. This worked for about 6K but now the cel comes on more often. It comes on about every other week now. Sometimes it will go off without un-hooking the battery and other times it stays. Any suggestions on this? Would replacing the 02 sensors help this issue? I just had looking at a check engine light and it gets annoying unhooking the battery all the time.
#2: Valve Noise.
Exactly how noisy should a b16's valvetrain be? When I first got the car it was only really loud on the highway. I recently had the valves adjusted at the honda dealer and now it just sounds weird. If the music is off, you can clearly hear what sound to be the valves going to town. Its more of a hissing noise that you can perfectly hear with the music off. Any suggestions on this? Would you take it back to the dealer and let them hear it? I had it done in May and the work is guaranteed for 1 year. I've been driving it like this for 3k miles, including taking a 1500 mile round trip road trip. The sound just makes me eerie of the car.
Thanks for taking the time to read and help me out!

#1 could be the 02 going bad, not real sure about that
#2 i think what your experiencing is injector clicking. pretty much a common problem among these motors. mine does it, and it was recently rebuild, but i still have the factory injectors. again im not ABSOLUTE on that one cuz i haven't hear the noise in person, but mine sounds exaclty like the noise you describe
hope that helps a little

i have a b16a2 in a 4dr eg and my injectors make a lot of noise also...they're stock injectors. a good trick is to get a long flat head screw driver and put the metal end on the injector body and put ur ear on the plastic end. im a mechanic and that always helped me find injector noise. you will here a click every time the injectors pulse... do this on each one to see if one is louder than the others...hope this helps...
Mine makes the same noise and its exactly how you described. I have a b16 si. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by swapped95 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i have a b16a2 in a 4dr eg and my injectors make a lot of noise also...they're stock injectors. a good trick is to get a long flat head screw driver and put the metal end on the injector body and put ur ear on the plastic end. im a mechanic and that always helped me find injector noise. you will here a click every time the injectors pulse... do this on each one to see if one is louder than the others...hope this helps...</TD></TR></TABLE>
THats an AWESOME trick. 1 further question tho... after we found which injector makes noise... wut can we do about it??
(not mean to jack thread or anything)

good trick, I will give it a try. But is this a problem or just something normal that I don't need to worry about?

Thanks mang
I run 2 bottles of stp inj. cleaner each oil change and the noise is still there. I still haven't got a chance to confirm the noise but i will do the scrwdriver test tomorrow.

It could be quite possible, next time it comes on, i'll drop in autozone and have it checked out before I go replacing the 02 sensors.

if you have a chiltons or a haynes book on your car it will tell you to jump 2 of the pins with a paper clip or wire and turn the key to run position and the cel will flash a certain number of times to tell you what the code is...i have a 2001 accord and my cel comes on regularlly
!!!!
!!!!
So I just did the screwdriver thing and thats definately my noise. They are all equally loud. Now, is this a bad thing that they do this or should it be fine?
Thanks for the link
Thanks for the link
Ok, I got the light checked into. It is code PO172 which means the fuel system for the 02 sensor in bank 1 was too rich in testing. Will replacing the 02 fix this?
