CV Axle issue- HELP!!!
Ok, guys, I need some serious advice concerning my car. I've gone through six axles in the past two months. Each one has displayed the same symptoms (passenger side/ transmission joints; continuous knocking). When I keep pressure on the shaft (i.e. accelerating, braking) the knocking is at a minimum. However, while cruising at steady rpms or coasting in neutral, the knocking noise is very noticeable. The first time, it got to the point where the tripod on the inner side of the shaft was toasted. I'm not putting monstrous amounts of power to the ground (MAYBE 190 whp), so I know it isn't a power issue. However, I leave for Virginia in two days. It's 2000 miles roundtrip and I am screwed if this happens on the road. Every shaft to this point has been a rebuilt one, each lasting around 100 miles until it goes out. The excessive repairs lead me to believe that something else is causing this continuous bs. From what I know about shafts (which isn't much), they basically go out on their own. Does ANYONE have an idea as to what it may be? Transmission, possibly? That would SUCK, but at least I could narrow it down. I just need to know what other causes there may possibly be (if any). These shafts are really becoming stressful. Of course, I'm in a bind now more than ever due to this trip. I need advice badly, fellas. Please help!!! Thanks!!!
check the other end where it splines with the axle.
check#17 and #18

if your transmission shifts fine and have no grinds when you drive. it shouldn't be internal parts of the transmission.
6 axle in 2 months must be crazy

You have no idea. When you spend that much time fixing a problem and it keeps coming back, you start to wonder "What the @#$%!!!"

What kind of rebuilt axles? A few years back, a couple of people reported some problems with low mileage failures on rebuilt axles, but I don't remember the brand.
Any chance you have suspension or other damage on the passenger side bearing/arm, that could be stressing the axle? How many miles on the caR? Seems like a toasted rear rubber trans mount (or mounts) might cause mis-alignment.
Only on the passenger side, and that's the only one you replaced?
