that cant be right, there's no way that a halfshaft and axle combo would be cheaper than a axle alone. And a halfshaft and an axle are two different things

and generally when you change your axles (which your cvs are connected to) you change both drivers and passengers sides at the same time

Re: half shaft cv joint? (dubbedcorde)
To me a half-shaft means the whole animal. A rear wheel drive car has a drive shaft, with u-joints between the tranny and the diff. When you have an independant drive wheel, the axle assemble on one side is called the half-shaft. The half-shaft is the whole axle assembly that contains both the inner and outer CV joints on one side of car. On one end it attaches to the tranny and the other to the hub.
The half-shaft is cheaper than buying a new CV joint because it is a mass overhauled unit. When you buy it you must give them your old one as an exchange. You are generally much better off, and it's cheaper, to buy the whole half-shaft and from Auto-zone it has a warantee. You may need it. I've had a rebuilt CV joint on a half-shaft I bought die after only 1 year.

yea same here, i have always heard them called axles and a halfshaft (as the part that mounts to the back of the block) or intermediate shaft.
