Default Gauges..and the installation of them

Hey,

I have an electronic oil temp gauge...I'm wondering if there's anywhere I can mount the sender that gives decent readings, that doesn't involve welding or cutting or anything of that sort. In other words, no bung in the oil pan. I don't need perfectly accurate readings, but as close as I can get would be good. Any ideas?

OK...if no one can answer that one...how about this. Can you just replace the oil filler plug with the temp sensor? Would there be any problems with that?

C'mon, someone's gotta know something...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....I need to start sleeping or something. I can't believe I typed filler....

Anyway, thanks for the help, very appreciated. I'm assuming it is reasonably accurate when you do that?

The oil pan is a good place to take temp. It's more common to drill the pan lower and closer to the front, but the drain plug is a good compromise if you don't want to drill.

OK...here is my 2 cents on the deal...again

I think if you are going to the trouble I would have a bung put in the pan. It cost me like 30 bucks to have it done. It is out of the way in the event I go off road, been there done that, and it won't get ripped out like it can if you put it in the drain plug. I have seen this happen, and it is a BITCH to fix without replacing the pan.

As far as a pressure gauge. I mounted my sender to the firewall and ran a looped piece of tubing to the factory switch local. I used a T so the factory switch and the new sender get the oil at the same time and place.

Also I have an almost new oil pan that I could have a bung put in...just like mine...and sell it to someone if they wanted.

Check out my sig for some pics

It's fine...i know. I was surprised it had no search results, I would expect this to be a common question.

I had mine installed just to the left of the drain plub and low enough to be out of the way of the oil sump pick-up. I will try and snap a few picks this weekend when I am under tha car again.

As far as a shop to do the work any machine or welding place should do it...for cheap as well

Ciao'

What type/size tubing did you use?

I used braided stainless...number - 6 I think. I bought as an autometer kit. It was like 10 bucks and came with a bunch of adapters and such. I'll try and get some photos this weekend.

Cheers'
