Default OBDI Automatic Transmission on a OBDII Car?

Will a 92-95 work correctly in a 96-98? I know it will bolt up, but is there missing sensors that will throw a CEL? I know a newer transmission won't work on an older car but I don't recall reading anything on the other way around. OBDII trannys cost twice as much, if it'll work with a CEL light I may have to just deal with it, unless it won't shift properly at all. Thanks
