no im talking about a bushing to go on either side of the spherical part of the heim joint. basically to stop it from twisting and knocking while driving

OK, I see what you mean, but if it's twisting and knocking you have other problems...or do you have a bar with joints on each end?

Anyway, I have used some short lengths of a rubber fuel line for bushings. You can cut a 1/2" or 1/4" or whatever size you want and just slide it onto the bolt that goes through the joint when you attach everything. You could also use some fancy plastic or rubber spacers from the hardware store.

kind of confusing post since the heim joint is a bushing in a way
a spherical bushing

are you talking about those spacer sleeves than go on both sides of the heim joint?

if you have knocking...check if the ball has play on the joint
if it has even a little play...thats where your knocking is coming from

ya i have a traction bar with the heim joints on both side. the spherical joint itself is perfect. just when i make hard turns the shaft twists a little bit. the best way i can illustrate it is like this l()l the piece in the middle twists and hits the bracket. its the natural heim joint movement just sick of hearing the noise. ill try the rubber hose and see how that works.

The rod ends aren't binding are they? If they are, you need to fix that problem or something will bend or break!

no they are not binding at all. they only have like 900 miles on them so they are pretty new. they are moving just like they should. this movement makes the noise l\\l l()l l//l from side to side. the outside being the bracket and the inside being the joints housing ( the only name i know for it) i just want to cushin that movement to cut down on some more noise.

I suppose I'm not exactly understanding what's occuring. I use rod ends on my adjustable sway bar end links, and I have not noticed and unusual noise from the rod ends themselves.

If the race of the rod end is hitting the bracket, it seems to me that would cause the rod end to bind, or something is not aligned correctly.

Is there a rod end on each end of the bar so that the bar can rotate around the ball parts of the rod ends? Is that the problem?

Very interesting. Have you thought about trying high misalignment rod ends, or perhaps oversized rod ends with high misalignment bushings?

I've never seen a rubber bushing for noise control on a rod end.

It almost sounds like you don't have enough misalignment clearance before the rod end hits the bracket. Pictures would help greatly.

I use rubber washers on both sides of my torque damper setup which has heim joints to prevent noises.

if the bearing is just making noise as it twists under its normal range of motion, then spray some wd-40 on it. I'm guessing the bearing is not Teflon lined.
