Default CX tranny in a DX...will i feel a difference?

My beater car is a 92 dx. The tranny is on its way out. I checked out both the dx and cx ones and they are different gearing...

Transmission Name Engine Counter Part Gear (*)
P20/A000 92-95 Civic CX/VX D15B8/D15Z1 (1)3.250 (2)1.761 (3)1.066 (4)0.853 (5)0.702 (R)3.153 (Final)3.250
P20/A000 92-95 Civic DX/LX D15B7 (1)3.250 (2)1.762 (3)1.172 (4)0.909 (5)0.702 (R)3.153 (Final)coupe/sedan: 4.058
Hatch: 3.888

I dont really know much about gearing, but will it be that different to drive, mind you i dont reallly need it for speed. I think i will be saving gas and lose a bit of power, or am I wrong?

I have a CX tranny right now, and you are correct. But one cannot complain about the 35+ MPG city driving

slower and will use more gas if you use 5th gear.

Use it as a 4 speed......

CX 4th = 2.77 overall ratio
DX 5th = 2.84 overall ratio

You get the best mileage at 2600-3000 rpm, DX is geared perfectly for the D15B7.

Thanks for the quick responses.... I found leads on both trannys for 100 canadian each. DX has 240Kms while the CX is at 195Kms.

Side note... My current tranny is downshifting on highway on it own for 1/2 - 1 second or so and then going back into proper gear. This is with me just cruising at 110kms, no accelerating or driving up hills for no reason. It started doing it about 2-3 weeks ago. VSS got changed about 1.5-2 months ago. Will a new tranny solve this problem or should i be looking at something else?

yeah it should fix it

use cx 5th on long straights

but that's just quoting what bone told me

damn, everyone chimed in within 15 minutes.

most businesses spend high dollars to get this kind of support within this amount of time.

STOP the presses!!!!!!!!!

First you quote manual transmission specs, but now you say your tranny downshifts itself?

i.e. you have an automatic.

Also Canada models differ from USDM, so we'd to know what ENGINES where used in your CX and DX models.

if like the USDM DX vs. EX automatics, the EX has a longer 4th gear, lower rpms. I'd stiock with the DX for more rpms, 3000 @ 70 mph is perfect.

I did forget to mention that the beater car was auto. The DX here is the 2nd from the top behind the Si.

Motor code is d15b7....

I know the differences with the motors... My other car is a turbo d16z6 @ 14psi.
