Default '98 CR-V misfire

my g/f owns a '98 Honda CR-V and it is currently having a misfire issue.

I swapped out the cap and rotor and coil for a MSD blaster setup, and it started to miss. So i switched it back, and the miss has gotten progressively worse.

The miss happens at idle up to 2500rpm(feels and sounds like only firing 2 cylinders at the same time and gutless as all hell.), where it clears up some but still has a bit of a miss. I am still running the 8mm msd plug wires on it, and was wondering if they might be the cause, or is there a deeper routed issue i am not seeing?

Oooh...I know CRV's of that generation are known to have issues involving the cylinder head. I have seen the exhaust valves deteriorate and will cause a constant mis-fire. A compression check on all four cylinders would be a good idea to confirm this.

you could also check you wires for rotting or cut, and also check you plugs or just replace them

true...you may have fouled some of the plugs.....the msd blaster kit is a bit of a overkill on any honda......honda rotor and wires are good for at least 400hp.....but also check the rotor and cap and make sure you didnt fry them as well

This is actually a known issue. There is a Honda service bulletin (I can't spell) on it.

will do the compression check to see bout this.

her crv has about 260 thou km's, so it might be time for its rebuild.

can anyone say GSR head-swap time, lol.

If it ends up being the exhaust valves receeding into the cylinder head make sure you dont just let someone rebuild the head you currently have or you'll just go through this all over again. The heads fron Honda are fixed of this problem, I'm not sure of an aftermarket source.
