I was driving home in the rain last night, got home turned my car off and when i went to start it today it wont. It turns over but it wont start. I dont know if my starter is dead or maybe my spark plugs are wet. Got any ideas.

Any mods on the car? With the tiny bit of information you gave, I can only guess that there's a wet ground somewhere.

it should be wet knowing the whole car is the ground... ROFL

Wet ground = A ground spot in the system that occurs when water completes the circuit.

Not the kind of ground you're thinking about.

that wouldnt matter if the ground is just wet... it would matter if the water crossing all the circuits...

 

no mods. I hit a small puddle. I was only driving for 10-15 minutes.

 

so should i wait for this wet ground to dry?

That's what I meant with the wet ground. The water completed some circuits and drained his juice.

The car still has power everything seems fine until i try to start it. it turns over and over and over but wont start.

so its just your batt then... it shouldnt turn over if the starter is bad...

 

it also wont turn over and over if its the battery. with a dead battery, you will hear either a click from the starter or it trying to turn over very slowly and stop when you turn the key.

not true... unless your batt is completely dead... notice he said he still got some power? pay attention to details...

 

check ur fuel gauge, lol jk how deep was this puddle u hit?

 

take off the spark plugs an see if it got spark. maybe is ur relay/and see if the fuel pump is pumping.

 

unless he drove though a river i dont think the puddle really did anything. i was driving in pouring rain and a drain got clogged around a curve. didnt see it and when i drove through it water was over my hood. everything was fine, no water damage, no water in the motor...but scared the poop out of me.

 

you need to narrow down the possibilities.

check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail. remove black plastic cover over fuel injectors.
find fuel rail feed line. loosen line. fuel should spray out. (no or yes) tighten line. turn ignition on. wait 3 seconds turn off. again loosen fuel feed line. fuel should spray out with pressure (yes or no) if it sprays out you have fuel pressure. (this is a very basic way to check for pressure no exact)

check for ignition spark. remove coil pack cover. remove one coil pack. keep wiring connected. find a screw driver with a good plastic handle. also find a pair of leather gloves. insert screw driver into coil pack end. hold metal part of screw driver over good grounding point. (valve cover mounting nut is a good place.) screw driver should be held above grounding point about 1/4 in away. have someone crank engine. note coil spark will travel down screw driver and jump to ground. you will see spark. this spark should be very much in a pattern and the same amount of spark each time. you can check each coil if you like. do you have spark (yes or no)
(note this is a very basic way to check for spark there is other way but they are much more technical and require special tools.)

You should check your engines compression. this will require a special tool. i believe kragen will lone out compression testers. if they do. you need to remove all spark plugs and insert compression tester into first cylinder. crank engine 5 complete revolutions. you should hear each cylinder pump 5 times. then look at the gauge. 150 psi or higher should be good. check each cylinder.

most of the time you either don't have spark or fuel. i bet you will not have spark. if you come up with the fact that you don't have spark or fuel. check fuses first. most the time its something simple.

if all you did was charge the battery and it fixed the problem, i would replace the battery to be on the safe side...

it is probably the original battery, and i would hate to have it leave you stranded somewhere....

7yrs is a long time for a oe battery.....


i just replaced my oe battery on my 02....
