Default Blown Short Block

If my short block has a hole in it and everything else appears to be fine, i only need to replace the short block right? this is a d16y8

If there's a hole in your block, there's a 99% chance that there's damage to the head.

ur gonna open it up and see damaged pistons, rods, valves from the head.and prob have metal flakes everywhere so it wuld be ur best interest for a new motor. u dnt wanna fix the problem u see and den start it up and it not work for long or work at all.

The head may or may not be damaged. Without disassembling the engine, you won't know. These three replies sum it up:

It's up to you whether it is worth your time to attempt salvaging a head that may be bad, or to just source a new longblock and replace the entire thing.

If its *NOT* at all damaged, then I guess you could just get a new block... But if I were you, I would take this as a excuse to grab a new motor and do a swap, Im thinking a B18b would do you well.
