Default Sv riders chim in please.

Ok, so now that I have me gsxr1k rear shock installed I need to lower the front to make up for the drop in the rear. I lowered the front 12mm's {i was going for 10mm's} and I did the zip tie trick to make sure that I dont bottom out. Well the zip tie went all the way to the bottom of the lower triple tree. Did I lower the front too much? Can someone tell me the lowest that I can go? Thanks for the help, Steve.

How much do you weigh? The stock SV forks are terrible, and way too soft for even skinny people. I wouldn't be that surprised if you were getting bottom outs. What i would be interested to know is if you front sag is different at 12mm lowered and 0mm lowered.

you could raising links for the rear just to elimate the whole problem and then get gixxer forks. SV's BLOW >

the SV forks aren't very good. You can do as little as change the fork oil to a heavier weight and that can help stiffen the ride up a bit, or you can swap springs at the same time. Orrrr, you can get some GSXR forks and be a BAMF.

blowin my own spot up?

My fork conversion cost about 650 when all was said and done, and that's with GP suspension valves, 04-05 GSXR springs, and fresh oil. But then i sold my whole front end for about $600 as well, so i really didn't end up spending much money. I also sold all the other little bits i replaced off the bike and did pretty well. The only large amounts of money i've spent on the bike are from recently when i did a lot of little cosmetic stuff and upgraded the exhaust.

The front end was purchased from a guy off the wera boards, although i was searching on ebay alot. SVrider.com is another place to search for that stuff. I won't go in to the details here, but you can search around for the parts necessary to do the speedo conversion. All other parts for my front end were purchased off of ebay.

i seem to recall there was a guy on ebay who sold special kit with all the necessary parts for a speedo sensor for just this type of conversion but i searched and couldnt find anything on ebay. any suggestions on where to look or a place that lists what parts would be needed to do the speedo sensor myself?

the guy i know of was named Jim on SVriders.com. You can find reference to him in all of the GSXR fork conversion threads. He used to make a kit to convert the speedo but hasn't in a while and i doubt that he is anymore.
If you search SV rider you can figure out the name of the hall effect sensor you need, then you just need to mount four magnets to the rotor however you see fit.

Another place to check for used frontends is http://www.gotmotoparts.com

I put new 15 weight oil in and turned up the pre loads to help but im not sure if I need to bring the bike back up. The turn in feel much better now that I lowered it but, I don't want to mess anything up.
