Oil Filter Leaking? Head gasket?
Anyone have any trouble with a new oil filter leaking? I just swapped head gasket, and im getting a bit of a puddle of oil under the filter. Its a purolator.
I felt along most of the head gasket (2 layer y8, copper spray) and it feels pretty dry. the oil sending unit above the filter is definitely dry. I swaped the new purolator for another, and same issue.
Tomorrow I'll try an oem filter, maybe with a slight film of honda bond, and that will either rule out filter or fix the issue. (I doubt its filter at this point, but everything else seems dry. Help me out, I have a track event on tomorrow at buttonwillow and need to fix this today!

lol, do not use honda bond on your oil filter.
My recommendation would be to get under the car with a drop light or flash light and do some investigating.
Is there oil in your coolant, or on your spark plugs?

atleast through my experience, purolator's rubber gaskets get stuck on the block. this will cause an oil leak since the new filter cannot seal right. also, are you putting a film of oil on the rubber gasket of the new filter?

Make sure that when you took off the old oil filter that the gasket didn't get stuck and stay on. This would cause for the new filter not to seal right and drip oil a bit. Happen to me like 2 weeks ago.
I have been under there with a flash light. Its pretty difficult to trace the oil since its brand new clean oil. (mobil, auto zone was out of german castrol)
The filter is on properly, no hole. And obv the first thing i checked for was if the gasket stuck to the block.

how tight are you putting it?
also, oil is shiny, the light from your flashlight should reflect off of it, whether it's new or old?
try jacking the car up, look to see if it's leaking from the pan. for some reason, on my b16 the pan bolts have gotten alittle loose twice.
and last but not least, is the drain plug on tight? maybe (unconsciously) you stripped the pan?

i looked from under with a flashlight. There is just so m,uch you can see with everything in place back there behind the block. Most of my info is from feeling around with my finger in places i cant see very well. The oil is pooling a few inches above the oil pan gasket, its clearly not that.
It's likely the hg, i don't see what else would cause it. (I bought the oem filter and will throw it on shortly)

i got the same problem... my leak leaves about a 2-3 inch in diameter wet spot on the ground over night... it doesn't puddle but the concrete just has an oil circle on it... i just installed oil temp and pressure gauges with an oil filter sandwhich plate but it's not leaking from there.. i wiped it all down and put white shop towels between the oil filter and block... nothing where else could it be?
Yes, both filters have holes in em, and I improperly installed em. I'm not a fuickin idiot...
I swapped the filter, same thing. I can only assume its a bad seal on the HG oil galley. I geuss I'll just do it again, but I'm done with 2 layer gasket. I'll just mill the .012 and run the proper 3 layer gasket. Lesson learned I suppose. I hope it lasts the event without getting worse.
Thanks guys.
