Default Bit of a dilemma...

My eh2 hatchback has a d16y7 swap in it. It has a decent pull, not looking for too much more. Had my day's of b-series, and turbo. But I plan on going d-series turbo in the future. But keeping it n/a for now, should I do a mini-swap with a y8 head. Or just get a D16y8 long block and call it a day. And save up for a turbo setup at the same time. Just want a bit more "umph" on the streets, and not spend so much. Pretty much want to run vtec at least. What ya'll think.

i've heard a lot of success with turbo d16y8. How much are you looking to spend?

On the n/a setup for now probably just maintenance on it. Boost probably end up spending a little more then 2g's with install and tune.

I guess swapping a y8 long block will be better then doing a mini-me on the y7 I currently have.

Looking at your sig I see its a 93 and that you live in Cali so I would go for a D16z6 for BAR reasons. Possibly even pick up a Greddy Kit with CARB certified stamp so that way you dont get hassled by the cops. I know on turbod16.com they have a sticky for all the "best prices" and they have a greddy kit minus the I/C for 1500. Im not sure whether or not that it comes with the CARB stamp, but its worth it to call and find out. Or you can get the D16y8, piece together a turbo kit and run the risk of getting a ticket and being sent to BAR along with paying 150+ to smog your car.

hmm.. I chose the d16y8 cause its a newer motor, and would keep it stock for quiet sometime first. And d16y8 seem easier to find then the z6.

Definitly just do a full Y8. Or Y8/Z6 trans will probably make a bigger difference (if you currently have a y7 trans)

Not trying to go boost right now, but good reference for later. How much you think y8's longblock go for $300+? Good info btw

The Y8 will always have a little less mileage, but if you are going turbo you could always do a mild build/rebuild. I only suggest the Z6 due to Cali's strict emission laws. If you camp out in the marketplace you could easily find either or. GL on the build

Yeah I know. Just saying, don't do a mini-me. Same price as a SOHC-V longblock but more headache.

I think they're less than 300.

Sounds good, Y8 it is, newer motor, should have lower mileage then a z6.
