Default tranny grinding

My 92 Si Civic is grinding into second at redline shift and sometimes into third at redline. Should I have it rebuilt or just outright buy a new one(or rebuilt). Any suggestions on the best place to buy one, I've been doing a lot of searching and just can't seem to find what I need and I don't want to get ripped off. A lot of work has already gone into this baby and a lot more is planned. If anyone has one they are trying to get rid of PM me.

You are shifting too fast at high RPMs and ruining your synchros.

blame a synchro = get kicked in the nuts.

Simple and clear, ok?

Worn 1-2 shifter fork and/or weak read tranny mount.

be cheaper and quicker to swap trans...unless you plan on doing the work yourself, it will take a shop longer to rebuild a trans than to swap a new one...in any case if you plan to do the work yourself, swapping a trans = less down time.

Just wonderin, if most of you take the time to rebuild engines, why don't you just rebuild trannies yourselves? Is it that much harder? I'm sure it'd be easier to swap it but, I'd want to rebuild it MYSELF knowing what is new and what's not. I've never opened one up but from the pics, they don't seem all that hard. Someone enlighten me Maybe I see it that way since I'm one to fix everything an am handy. Now I'm talking about a 5 spd of course. Auto is a whole different ball game.

well for me, i only own one car and cant afford to have my car not driveable...most of the time i do all my own work on my car as long as i know its not something that im possibly going to run into a stupid problem and have to order parts. if i can fix it in a couple hours il do it. i'm sure one il rebuild a trans when i have the opportunity to and it will be good to learn and see how it goes together..but i dont have that luxury right now

Is it difficult to replace the 1-2 shifter fork. I have a good mechanical sense and do all other work to my car. what do you think.

well I have 2 suggestions...

1st you could buy a Gearspeed stage 1 or 2 tranny depending on your level of mods you want to do the car. That tranny will probably set you back about 2500. That is what I have in my car I have a SOHC turbo with 365whp and couldn't be more satisfied.

2nd I have a D16Z6 tranny in decent shape will sell really cheap b/c I don't need it. If you want a transmission to have some one rebuild. You will need to put new bearings in it and while your at it Gearspeed makes carbon coated syncros for it too. LET ME KNOW.

also in case your wondering... Gearspeed's i think stage 2 is Quaife LSD, carbon coated syncro's, Steel shift forks, and new bearings and shafts. that is what I have good to like 500hp (i hope)

and for about $1000 + shipping I can build a OBX tranny.

I learned to rebuild my own trannys after watching just one being torn apart. Now look how far I came?

Bense started out the same way, asked me alot of questions, but was able to learn alot on his own......now he's a moderator here.
