Default breaking in a new Fit

Hello everyone. I purchased a Honda Fit, sport automatic. I pick it up Thursday. After I pick it up I am leaving to drive to South Carolina. What are the requirements for breaking in the engine? For example, should I vary speeds? Should I not use the cruise control? I have heard such conflicting accounts, from running it hard to running it easy. So, what do the experts say? Thanks!

If you want to go buy the book [which I'd assume is safe] just vary your speed and don't use cruise control as you mentioned. Try not to accelerate or decelerate rapidly. Warm up your car as well.

Shouldn't be hard to follow those "rules" for the first 600 miles.

I appreciate you responding. Do you think, then, that means I could go up to 70 or 75mph for 10 minutes, then drop to 55mph for 10 miles, and so forth and so on?

doesn't say anything about varying speeds. just don't accelerate off the line or do a sudden brake.

Thanks. How do you know this - are you a technician, a knowledgeable mechanic, or just plain smart?

when my brother was breaking in his prelude he didnt know how to drive stick. He learned on the lude and during the break in, i was riding with him and his friend because his friend knew how to drive stick. Anyways we were on a hill and my brother was rolling back and he got nervous and booted it up the hill and a bunch of other things during break in. 4-5 years later he still has the car he dropped it, kitted it and all that stuff, never replaced clutch yet its still going strong with 109,000 miles on it just the regular maintence oil change and ****. I remember the car sales man saying to my brother "you can baby her for a bit but she likes to be pushed". I still remember that from 5 years ago im now 17 gonna be picking up my new car i dont know what yet but i have saved about 5g's in a few years and that will be the down payment.

So all in all i dont really think babying the whole break in part is really all that much people boost to much. It might be better in the long run 200,000 + km's.

Why would you not want to use cruise control...? I just bought my Fit yesterday, and have used the cruise control a couple of times already... never thought anything about it...
