Default jdm tuners, stock airboxes?

why is that most jdm tuners and some stateside tuners like comptech, prefer to use stock or stock-like airboxes for there vehicles? is it due to the pumping loss of tube style intakes?

the stock boxes provide a cold(er) air stream because they tend to isolate the intake filter from the rest of the engine bay... choices may also have to do with the length of the intake tube... theoretically the longer the intake tube = more low end ... the shorter the intake tube = more high end power...

the stock units also work quite well...
