Default Unplugging Knock Sensor.

If you unplug the knock sensor, it will throw a code but will it also keep from retarding the ignition timing? I am trying to figure out what is causing my low rpm hesitation. It won't hardly move from the start.

I think if you unplug the knock sensor that the ECU will go into a safe mode and retard the timing a lot. have you checked out your ignition components? spark plugs etc?

If it throws a CEL, it might revert to limp mode.

What mods do you have on the car? Mileage? Have you tried cleaning out your EGR ports? Check HERE for other solutions.

It is a stock motor with about 40k (engine swap) miles. The cap, rotor, and plugs are all good. Timing was set at 15* BTDC. It is a 94 H23 and I only have this problem when it warms up. It is great when cold.

Be VERY VERY careful when unplugging the knock sensor. The plastic connector becomes very brittle and it is easy to break. If you break it, it's over $100 for a new one, even from discounted Honda suppliers.

let me make sure i understand the problem correctly. At low rpm with the motor up to temp to car feels low on power. At low rpm when the car is still cold the car moves out just fine? Its starting to sound like it could be a fuel delivery probem.. like the motor is getting too much fuel after it warms up and this causes it to be low on power.. How is your gas mileage?

My gas milage is horrible. I didn't even get 20 mpg on this tank and it was all highway miles. I just checked the timing while it is acting up and it was way off. I couldn't get it to 15*BTDC.

OK, I just advanced the timing as far as I could and it took of like new. Then driving around a little it started going back to no power like something was retarding the ignition timing. Is the knock sensor the main culprit for retarding timing?
