Default Replacing pilot bearing on a '93 Civic VX

Will I need to remove my flywheel to pull out my pilot bearing on my '93 Civic VX?
I have the stock flywheel.

You can always try sticking something like a ratchet extension inside the pilot bearing and walking the bearing out by wiggling it back & forth. This works well on my RC car parts when bearings are stuck in the holes. I usually only do this when the bearing isn't gonna be reused...

Yes removal of the flywheel must be done to remove the pilot bearing. You have to install the new one from the back side of the flywheel. I recommend you use the old pilot bearing to tap the new one into place.

The expensive side of this job is, while your in there you should replace the associated pieeces. Clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing. Other wise known as a clutch kit. It comes with the pilot bearing.

Hello MB! I remember you from years back on usenet.
I removed the tranny to replace the input shaft, counter shaft, main shaft, and differential bearings. While the tranny is out, I decided I might as well do the clutch as well so I bought an "OEM" like Exedy Clutch kit which comes with pressure plate, clutch disk, throwout and pilot bearing.

I'm not going to resurface the flywheel - that's why I didn't want to remove it to replace the pilot bearing. If I must, I just I guess ...

You need to have the flywheel turned to get the most out of the new clutch.

It doesn't cost very much.

tap it out with a socket, really simple......but your gonna have to remove the flywheel from the crank.

depends on what kind of shape it is in.

You won't need a puller or anything, that pilot bearing is barely pressed in.

Being a VX I doubt it wil need resurfaced, but the stupid long first gear might have created hot spots on the flywheel.

I've never had to replace a pilot bearing, I only removed mine for when the flywheel was lighten and resurfaced.

yea if its not making noises and you have everything back together, no need to take everything apart. I would just leave it as is.

I'm not going to replace the pilot bearing then! Btw, my car has 220k miles on it... Yell, if you think otherwise with this new info.
I'll check for hotspots on the flywheel. I pretty much have my tranny rebuilt. I just need to seal the case up, replace the pressure plate and friction disk, and I"m done. Can't wait cuz the vx has been out of commission for 1 month. well, more like 9 months since I stop driving it due to the awful noise it made.

I want my 48-52 mpg! My employer is moving 40 miles away, which brings my commute from 20 miles to 60 miles! argh!

sorry your getting such low gas mileage.

93 DX HB, 130 whp and 53 mpg.

600+ miles on the tank of gas I had in the car went I went to dyno in August 2005.

LOL! 48MPG is average. My high is 52mpg. BTW, how do you get such good mileage? Anything I can do with my VX (that you did on your DX) to get better mileage?

I have the CA VX (not the federal one, if that makes a difference).

One more thing about trannies. At the last minute, I decided to change out the differential bearings because one of them has a slight binding when turning. When I removed both the bearings, I noticed all the ***** and everything between the inner and outer races were covered in grey stuff. I never seen that with the other bearings. What is it? Do people usually put pack it with grease or is it just the ***** slowly disenegrating? I'll send pics if that'll help.
