honda crx ecu blinks 9 times
i was starting like how u race and then my engine light came on and soo i turned it off and turned it back on but it was idleing soo i waited a while andit turned on then the engine light was still on i looked at the ecu it was blinking 9 times and i searhed it up online and its the number 1 cylener thing but what is that whats wrong with my car
Was it 9 quick flashes or 1 long flash and 8 quick ones?
To read an ECU that is OBD0 like our CRXs this is how it works.
A quick flash = 1
A long flash = 10
If there is a space in the middle that doesnt flash that means its either repeating the code over or that it is telling you a seperate code later on.
So if a quick flash = . and a long flash = / this is how you read the code
/ . . . . . = 15
/ . . ----. . . . . ----/ . . . . = 12 for first code, 5 for second code and 14 for third code.
When you have the code figured out then open up your helms manual and follow the trouble shooting guide to fix the codes.
Also another trick to try is to reset the ECU, there are a few ways to go about this. You can either disconnect your battery for an hour or so and let the electricity ground out to nothing in the car. You can pull your hazard fuse for 20min or so and do it that way, or you can unplug the ECU for about 15min and then plug it back in. Then read the code again. Sometimes resetting an ECU will solve the problem without having to repair anything due to the ECU getting a false reading or just bugging a bit which they sometimes do.

CRX Forum</TD></TR></TABLE>not true for 88-91 CRX/Civic (unless you have a PR3 or PW0 B16 VTEC ECU or a PR4 ECU from 90-91 Integra) - all of the stock USDM 88-91 CRX/Civic ECUs, 88-89 Integra PG7 and JDM DOHC ZC PM7 only have short flashes - if it flashes 17 times, it is code 17 - there are no long and short flashes

in the FAQ above there is Code reading & Troubleshooting section... Ive been there many times, as i tend to research my problem myself before asking about it (it gets kinda tiring when your one of the helpful ones that tries to answer questions)
the sensor that trips code 9 usually lives in the dizzy, so to answer ^your question^ its possible yes... however i would do a bit of research before i opened my wallet at any auto parts supplier.
Maybe try a dizzy off a working coworkers car, or a friendly person around the neiborhood
