245-50-16
i am ordering new tires for the rear. i have searched numerous times and seen that if i am not getting the stock so-2s i should get a 245 size tire.. only problem is that the tires i want do not come in size 245-45, like suggested in many threads... will a 245-50 fit in the rearend without a lot of change in the speedo calibration and fitment?
TIA
TIA
I'm running 245/50-16 in the rear with no fitment issues. The speedo is going to read a little high, but it's not the end of the world if you keep that in mind on the interstate.

speedo will read slow. The wheels will rotate less for every MPH. So you will be going faster than you think. Plus it will look ridiculous IMO. Too much sidewall. I work at a tire shop....i can figure out exactly how much larger they are tomorrow as i dont feel like doing math at this time. I just bought some HANKOOK RS2 Z212 for track use in 225/50/16 front and 245/45/16 rear. those fit perfect. They were probably the stickiest street tires in that size. I wanted the bridgestone RE01-R though but they werent available in that size.

forget it . i did the stupid math. i cant resist math. The 245/45 sidewall is 110.25mm or 4.34''. The 245/50 sidewall is 122.5mm or 4.8''. So there's a difference of about .46''. Half inch. that's a lot. that means an inch over all.
The diameter of the 245/45 over all would be 24.68
the diameter of the 245/50 over all would be 25.6

interesting... i suppose i can stick with the 225-50 setup.. i just wanted to make sure i had the same contact size as the stock so-2's.. since they are supposedly more like a 245 size..

True. The S runs a larger rolling diameter up front than rear.

Right, I meant that the actual speed would be higher than indicated.
I've been running 25.7 inch high rear tires for a while now (275/40-17) and have not had any ABS issues (I track and Solo the car very often). I'm also running 225/4017 up front.
Last week I put new tires on my 16" rims and went with 205/55-16 and 245/50-16 on Kumho SPT. I did half a track-day on them before switching to the 17s, and didn't have any ABS issues either. Very progressive, though noisy.
The rear sidewall is a little larger, but it doesn't look ridiculous to me. It rides very well, probably smoother than the OEM S02 (but it's been a long time since I had those). Overall, I'm very happy with the 245/50-16 on the rear, especially for the price.
