Default Any idea how this happened? Sleeve damage

RS Sleeved 85mm 12:1 Motor. Probably 5000 miles on the motor. Also would run 80 direct shot nitrous on race gas. Car ran great. The head was recently pulled and damage discovered to the sleeve. Sorry about the crappy pics, I will try to obtain cleaner ones. Are these sleeves done?

Lack of anti-freeze or wrong type for exposed sleeves?

Maybe before closing it up some kind of chemical was applied to that part accidentaly and once it came in contact with AF that's what happen, looks like corrosion.

sleeves are fine as long as they are in the coolant jacks. Obviously the motor was not maintained properly. Why was the head removed, did it ever overheat? Well anyways, smooth it out with sand paper and flush it all out by removing the 19mm bolt on the front of the block.

Head was removed for a port/polish.
Car never overheated and ran perfectly fine.

Recently been thinking of getting out the racing scene and was considering selling the block. Just trying to get an idea of what happened/or what needs to be done if I am selling to a potential buyer.

Its just rust on the sleeves where the water coolant mixture comes in contact with the Steel sleeve. one way to prevent this is to use a 50% mixture of distilled water and anitfreeze. you can buy distilled water at any grocery store.

Tap water/hose water=rust
distilled water = no rust
