Hey guys, it's about time to change my b16 tranny fluid. I searched around, but nothing was really clear. Drain, top, run all the gears then drain and then top?

Run the fluid second time to get all the metal shavings off and then top/fill at about 1.9 quarts or fill 'till overflow? What mtf do you guys use/recommend on using? honda or gm syn's?

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Both honda mtf, and gm syncromesh are good **** imo. But If i were to choose it would be honda.

 

GM Syncro is GARBAGE!!!

I have a new tranny with less than 50k on it....Put the GM trash in it and had a terrible 3rd and 4th gear grind in less than a week.....

Switched back to HMTF and the grinds were gone instantly. Feels great!! I truely believe the only thing the GN **** is good for is hiding problems and ruining good trannies.

Thanks for the replies, and yes, I'm using GM right now and I can feel the 3rd gear grind. Hopefully it will be gone when I switch to Honda's.

 

The grind won't go away, it will only be masked.

$400+ to fix.

We dont know that for sure.......Like I said before. My tranny is 100% in perfect working order. I had HMTF in it...needed a change so I tried the syncoshit and it felt like crap from the start and started to grind. Went back to honda MTF and the grinds imediately vanished. The syncroshit is noticably thicker too. I dont like it one bit.

 

ive run syncromesh for about 50,000miles in my type r transmission. no problems as a matter of fact before i used the syncromesh it didnt feel as smooth. may i ask why you would drain and look for metal shavings if the tranny was just fine to begin with?

 

I never said that I drained it to look for metal shavings......I said it was time for a fluid change.

Anyways, I wanted to change my fluid because I've been driving for about 30K of harsh driving. I just did a recent tune up (cap, rotor,plugs,wires, seafoamed) and just wanted to change the fluid.
