suggestions please on my new set-up
hey guys i decided to go with some memphis speakers in my civic. i have some 6.5 3-ways for the rear. for the front, i was going to order a component set but the dealer told me to just buy the tweeters and then buy the 3 way 6.5's for the doors and just run those. i have the crossover that came with the tweeters and the outputs are for the high pass and low pass. since the speaker is not just a mid, should i still hook up that low pass output? or should i just split the main wire into two before that crossover and leave it like that? thanks
memphis 15-pr52 3way power reference coaxials. the tweeters are the power reference ones shown in the component set-up, the 15-PRI

The dealer is so wrong, it hurts.
Go with your first instincts, get a set of components for the front, even a good set of "point source".
You really do not need speakers in the rear, but if you do install some do not use tweeters, a set of mid-range/mid-bass drivers is all I would recommend for the rear, and if you use a 4ch amp, bridge the 2 rear channels into mono, wire the rear speakers in series, [8 ohm load] and connect them to the amp that way.

jesus christ thats some bad advice from the dealer. go with a component set. I can't see any reason to mix 3ways with a tweeter added on unless you like your highs to be horribly overpowering and unrealistic.
damn that sucks i already bought them. i didnt like the idea of it but figured he knew more than me so i just went with it. if i hook these ones up while i wait for the mids to come in, how should i wire them? thanks for all the help too
edit: i think he just wanted to sell me them so he wouldnt have to order the right thing

well the reason i bought the memphis rears was because i have a 93 cx hatch and it didnt even come with rears. i dont mind keeping those in the back(doesnt hurt anything right?) and then just selling the fronts and possibly getting the dealer to take back the tweeters since i havent messed with them. then just ordering the m-class components

The dumb-*** salesman should take the tweeters back, it was shitty advice he gave, and your right, it was probably "SWAT" [sell what's available today]

sorry but why disable the tweeters in the rear speakers? right now i have the rears hooked up and i have some crappy walmart pioneers in the front. it sounds much better in the rear than the front, and overall i like having some sound behind me. the components are ordered and should be here sometime this week hopefully. also im considering buying a 4 channel amp to run these, any suggestions on how to set it up? thanks a lot

actually having rears will hurt your imaging. the best thing to do is put all your money and efforts into the front stage and start with a good component set. after that you can work on amps and subs etc.

really i didnt know that. im not looking for a crazy system, just something of an upgrade from what i had. i ordered the memphis m-class 6.5 components, and i currently have an ma audio 10 inch subwoofer that sounds pretty decent in my opinion
As mentioned, you do not need rear speakers at all, but if you want rears disable the tweeters, because high frequencies are very "directional" they will make it very hard if not impossible to get a good front stage and any kind of descent imaging.
High frequencies from behind you will lower and move the sound stage back, and result in a symptom we call left/right bias, the music will sound like it is coming from the left and right speakers, not from up in front of you.
Disabling the tweeters will alleviate this symptom to some extent, ideally you would wire the rear speakers in series, [8 ohm load] and connect them to a bridged or mono amp.
