Default D-series Tranny Help!

Well, I just got finished removing my tranny off of my D16Y7 motor. And, my car made a unusual noise before when I ran my car on idle. My friends told me its my throw out bearing, And in that case it was. Well I was turning the input shaft and I noticed when I turned it, I heard the same noise when my car is in idle. Should my input shaft be making the same noise as my blown throw out bearing is? Because when I was turning the input shaft it sounded as if the gears were meshing hard, and thats the same noise I got with my throw out bearing. Please help. Thanks

You'll only hear the throwout bearing when the clutch is depressed. I'm not sure how it applies when the trans if off.

No, you should not hear a grinding noise when you turn the ISB - that means the ISB is bad - it's a bearing, the purpose of a bearing is to make something rotate smooth inside of something else - if it's grinding, it's not smooth.

Yeah, Its the input shaft bearing. My old d15z1 tranny did that before i pulled it. When i tore it off my old motor and turned it by hand, it did the same thing.

It's less than a 100 dollars to fix that, normally its the ISB making that sound, but more frequently I've found the countershaft bearings like to shred to pieces and embed themselves behind that 3/8" sealing bolt on the rear of the case.

If it still shifted and held gear, I wouldn't expect anymore damage than that.

Wiggle the mainshaft and see if its loose.

it might be a 100 bucks for the bearing..but unless he knows what hes doing to rebuild it then its gonna cost him a couple days worth of labor from a mechanic to rebuild it. my y8 trans is also doing the same thing, best bet is buy new trans and swap it..can find a d-series trans for about 200 - 300 bucks...less downtime.

All they are are bearings, look at them, and find which ones are bad, and pull/replace it, easy as pie.

Bearing + seal is less than $30, I charge $50 + parts if you bring the tranny to me. Takes me about an hour to split case, replace ISB, inspect for other damage.

You just have to do the hard work of R&R the tranny
