why won't my bike start. please help asap!
i just got home last night from iraq, (for 15 days, then i go back
). my dad was periodically starting the bike, and it eventually went to dead. he took it to cycle gear and they charged it for a him a few days ago.
flash forward to a few minutes ago. i went and put the battery in, and it started making this weird buzzing sound and the gauge cluster kind of tripped out. I am absolutely positive the battery was hooked up correctly, red to the positive side, and black to the negative. other then my dad taking the battery out, he hasn't touched the bike in any other way other then starting it, and it hasn't moved.
i've been out of bikes for a while cause i haven't ridden in about a year, so i can't think of what it may be?
any ideas?

battery may be dead....after he got it charged did he put it on a battery tender? if you let a battery sit without being hooked up it drains. You should jump start it with your car
i've heard what a dead battery sounds like. it just clicks and doesn't do anything. this is a really weird, buzzing sound.
like i said, i'm positive i hooked it up correctly. and i'm pretty sure he just got it charged with the last day or two, so i can't see it being completely drained in that amount of time.
ah, i just want to ride

Sprign for a new battery... what happens to folks allot of times is they jump the bike(okay for emergencies) but then they depend on the running bike to recharge the battery... that taxes the stator and can really mess it up
this actually is a newer battery. i replaced it after i replaced the rectifier/regulator on my 03RR (which are known to be shitty on that year RR, and it had killed my battery to where it would barely start even after a good ride).
i can't remember when i got the battery, but it couldn't have had more then a few months (if that) riding on it, and it's just bit sitting except for the periodic start up by my dad.
my bike is kind of weird thought when i start it. It HAS to be in neutral, with the clutch in, with the high beams off. Ever since i wrecked it, it's weird like that. When i went and switched to the high beam (or the other way around, i can't remember at the moment), is when it would make the weird noise. and partial, distorted numbers would read on the LCD.
damnit. i want to ride, and this is frustrating. i have the money to spring for a new bike, which is what i should do

Letting the battery drain completely can ruin it. No amount of recharging will recover it.
As for the neutral-to-start issue, it's possible the clutch lever is not pressing on the press-pin (the name escapes me at the moment) with enough pressure. This happened to me with my Thooperhawk. Of course, if yours is a cable-actuated clutch, then I dunno.
Welcome back Odie.

Could always try the old push start trick. I would hit up a parts place for cheapo battery and hope that works, however it sounds like you have other issues as well.
thanks for the suggestions, i'll take another look. i just asked my mom, and my dad just took it in on sunday to get charged. what bothers me is the weird sound it's making, it's definitely not normal.
but, again, thanks for the suggestions.
thanks marmalade
but, i think i may be selling it, and pick up another 03-05. Hopefully i can get $3000-3500 out of it.

i hear ya .. i just don't have the time and really don't want to hassle with it. other then the quirk going on at the moment, it just needs fairings. but it sounds like PITA to track down all the fairings, and little pieces and to do it. And i still have several months left in iraq, and then i come back and living in the barracks, makes it hard to work on the bike.
man, i just want my bike how she was
STILL in a lawsuit, have to meet up with my lawyer this weeks. bleh.

Perseverance bro! We're all pullin' for ya.
As for the fairings, I'd go with HotBodies or Cheetah or Sharkskinz and make them my new street plastics.

i feel like a douche for doubting all of you.
but, i hooked it up to the parents car, and it cranked right up. it was just charged on sunday and is nearly new.
so, time to find my paperwork and get it replaced. damn them at cycle gear.
now i have to change the oil, check the tire pressure, get my tab renewed, and my license expired
off topic, but went out with some buddies last night and the bar wouldn't serve me alcohol cause my license was expired, and i was like "uhh, ya. i've kind of been in iraq for a while". so i showed em my military id and all was good.
thanks for the help, sorry for be ignorant and not listening

Typically Cycle gear keeps records of warranty's like that in their system.
Find one with some cool guys and explain where you have been for the last couple of months and ask if they can look up the warranty in their system.
Not sure where you are but the guys over at the fullerton one are pretty laid back...

but i took it into cycle gear, and the tested it and it was beyond dead, and they didn't have a battery in stock for my bike. so i bought a battery tender and they sent me across the street and i picked up a battery over there.
just started it, she fired straight up. took her around the the cul de sac, and i need to get her tires inflated properly. anyone remember the recomended for pilot powers?
i went and got my tabs and now, i need to get my license renewed.
but thanks to everyone for the support and for the help!
