Bad grind??
Hi guys, I have a skunk 2 single bend short shifter and ive been having a problem with shifting into 3rd gear alot. Just b4 I bought the skunk 2, i had a B&M dual bend. I changed the shifters because i thought maybe my bushing were shot and just bought a whole new shifter. It grinds every single time past 35mph with both of the shifters. I have a fake ITR ***. Could I be grinding because of how light the *** is? I grind going into 2nd gear as well when i shift hard sometimes. Any ideas? please help!

your **** has nothing to do with your gears grinding. Your synchros are most likely worn. Do you drive the car hard often?
Try changing your fluid....this most likely will NOT fix the problem though.
If your synchros are shot, your best bet might be to get another used trans. Since your name is DA 4 LYFE, im guessing its a DA. Get a DA GSR or B16 cable trans. Awesome gearing.

the design of the transmission synchros only allow certain amount of time to change gear. by changing a short shifter without changing your shifting style(banging thru gear like you are using stock shifter) will damage your transmission.
oops i meant they can ruin transmissions, but it has to be coupled with a "bad" driver too. some people shift hard and try to beat the synchros but just end up grinding. a short shifter makes it a lot easier to shift faster than the synchros want to.
its the syncros my dc2 has the same problem when im mashing on it from 2nd to third if i throw it hard it'll grind but if i take my time it wont its just syncros going out u could get new syncros and get em replaced or like that one dude said and buy a DA gsr tranny or a b16 tranny there cool or if its a ls or a rs just get stock tranny should only be like 300 bucks for a rebuilt tranny to buy one

is there any way i can just get my gears changed to a GS-R gears if i have my tranny rebuilt? I have a stage 2 clutch and don't really want to be riding on a stock clutch again.
Short shifters don't ruin transmissions, bad drivers do. I have 80K miles on my B&M short shifter with zero problems, and the tranny has over 304K miles. So much for your theory.
To the OP, try adjusting your clutch cable, swapping in fresh Honda MTF, and paying more attention to your shifting habits. Some people swear GM or Pennzoil syncromesh MTF will help grinding transmissions, so do some research and decide for yourself.

Well then change your clutch when you change the trans. The exedy stage1 is an AWESOME clutch for lightly modded cars. Great pedal feel/modulation, and almost stock like pedal pressure.
It might be more cost effective to get a new trans all together instead of a rebuild. Also, you have the peace of mind knowing that it was put together by Honda. Used GSR DA transmissions are probably pretty cheap at places like hmotorsonline or whatever other motor place.
Go easy on the next trans

only place to get a brand new tranny is the dealer. for a used one look in h-t market or ebay.

what's a "worn out shift pattern"? either the sychros are bad or they're not.

if it's bent then it'd definitely affect the shifting and could make you grind gears. i wouldn't get another tranny (unless you get brand new), you never know what condition the tranny is that you're getting. it's better to just get new synchros and know that they're new.

its true short shifter kinda mess up trans. but i have a short shifter in my gsr and it never grinds even when i shift hard so it must be how good a driver you r as well i think it depends on what type and brand of shifter you get

no, it's not true at all. how exactly would a short shifter mess up your tranny? people mess up their trannies with short shifters because they shift too fast and don't give the rpm time to drop like they would with a regular shifter or they don't press the clutch in in time cuz they're not used to the shorter throw. it has nothing to do with shifter brand. a shifter is a shifter.
