Plan on keeping my oem stock radio w/ ipod hookup ... Which front component speakers do you guys recommend and for the rear 6x9's ? Really don't want to get an aftermarket headunit... Thanks

 

for the rear speakers i recommend a piece of MDF cut to the shape of a 6x9. for the rest you have to provide a little more information like MMY, budget, goals, skills, etc

 

Just want really good sound... money is not a problem and I don't need the best... I was looking at Kappa 6.5 front components.. and rear kappa 2 way 6x9s.. what do you guys think

 

i too would tell you to ditch the rears altogether.

as for your headunit, upgrade to something aftermarket.. something along the lines of an alpine or pioneer..

you can also run the JL audio cleansweep if you want to retain stock headunit and run aftermarket amplifiers for your speakers.. which is what will yield you "good sound".. after purchasing your aftermarket speakers.

look into a 6.5 inch component set of cdt, focal, mb quart, jl, boston acoustic, etc etc etc.. and amplify them with a 2ch amp. then invest in a single 10 or 12 inch sub on a class d sub amp or purchase a quality 4 channel amp (run the front speakers off the front 2 channels and bridge the rear 2 channels for your subwoofer)

Really want to keep the factory stereo...I'm willing to spend about $300 for speakers... my car is a 2000 Integra Sedan...Basically just want something better than stock since they're blown.. haha.. I don't need anything crazy since I'm not into that.

 

well since your stock stereo puts out about 5-8 watts of RMS power.. you really are not in dire need of $300 speakers.

look for speakers with high sensitivity ratings.. 90+db.. these will work well with lower power units such as your stock headunit. something along the lines of the infinity speakers you were looking at could suit your needs.. along with you not running aftermarket amplifiers or a subwoofer, you may want to still retain your rear speakers and put another set of infinity in the back if you want to stay with one brand.

I guess you can lead a horse to water but not make him drink. You were given good advice but choose not to listen. You have no ideal on how speakers work. Your going to give them garbage signal so they are going to play a garbage signal. Just because they cost alot don't change a thing. Your better off with some new stock speakers or some entry level speakers that rms are about 35-50 watts. Your going to use 6.25 kappa speakers that need 75 watts rms and kappa 6x9 that need 110 watts rms. And try to run this off the stock headunit . A stock system is going to sound better then what your going to acheive. What you are doing is a complete waste of money and time. Take the advice above and get yourself a jl audio cleansweep, a nice amp, and then your speakers. Install the speakers correctly and do the job right from the start. If you do go ahead and do this and make a new thread about why does my car sound like poooooo. I will be the first to link you back to this thread and it would probably be locked because suspended hatch is pissed that his aids test is flawless

 

i just got owned.. by wrx-killer-Sti-eater.. so I went and ordered the JL cleansweep to start out with. I'll look at 4 channel amps tomorrow

it was also recommended that you not put in rear speakers so how about looking for a 2 channel amp instead and forget about buying rear speakers.

 

When buying an amp make sure it is 2ohm stable as well. Infinity makes these kappas 2ohms.

If you want to keep it all infinity then the Infinity Reference 475a should be a good choice.

After throwing in some quality Panasonics for the rear, and playing with the radio settings, it sounds like I got a woofer in the car.

i decided to go with some kenwoods from pepboys

it only cost me about 45 bucks and the rms was about 65 i think. great bang for the buck

pepboys has tons of speakers for cheap

Naw Man, I don't try to own anybody. Just straight facts. Whats your budget for this project? Now we can point you in the the direction of a good amp. You should of checked the sticky above. I have a clean sweep for sale that I ordered for a member and he flaked.

 

I don't really have a budget to be honest. I just don't need ' THE BEST ' stuff...You got PM Desmon.

 

 

im glad you decided to go with a JL cleansweep.. i too want to change my current setup from an aftermarket headunit back to stock and run a cleansweep as well. as previously stated.. now that you are into your stereo for some cash.. you may as well make the best of it.. to make a decent-good stereo you do not have to spend assloads of cash.. its more the effort and quality of the install that will make or break. get yourself a quality 2ch amp and speakers and a quality 1ch(monoblock) sub amp and subwoofer (ditch your rear speakers). if you want to run everything off of one amp, which i can see being a better bet for you (less money and less hassle on the install)(but chances are your system will not be AS powerful as a biamped system, but you arent all that concerned to begin with) you can run a single 4 channel amplifier as i said before, using the front 2 channels for your front speakers, leaving out your rears and bridging your rear 2 channels on the amplifier into one for a decent powered subwoofer.

you can look into a set of JL components if youd like and a JL w3v3 subwoofer and run it off a 450/4 JL amp.. that should be more than youll need to satisfy yourself.

personally i think a stereo is very important in a car, ive had stereos in each of my two integras and i will tell you that i will never again drive in a car with a stock stereo. to each his own though. good luck and everyone including myself are here if you need suggestions or install help or anything along those lines
