Default Piston Prep Resources

Does anyone here have any good resources related to piston prep before assembly? I'd like to educate myself about deburring, polished vs. roughed, coatings, etc.

I'm running shelf CP's and would like to add any insurance to them now that I can, before I assemble the block.

THANKS.

Cp's are pretty clean off the shelf.... at least mine were. I touched them up a bit just for added insurance though.

It's tough to see in the pics, but you get the idea. I went around all the corners and edges.

Correct. 81.5mm.

They are Benson sleeves as well.

All CP pistons 81.00 through 83.00 have the reliefs cut now.

83MM doesn't have them clipped out.

I think it's 82.5MM and down.

Nope.... 83's and down....

Trust me on this one. You must have an older version if you still have reliefs.

Incorrect. Never made an 83MM with trimmed reliefs. Only 82MM and smaller.

Who modified the reliefs of those 83mm pistons? Also I wonder why the do not make reliefs on the larger MM bores??

Maybe some of you engineers can lead me to an answer or give me answer.

I know I just got some Custom Wiseco Pistons through RLZ Engineering and my valve reliefs are cut. I was curious when I saw this.

CP modified them.

It's not necessary on the larger bores because there is plenty of meat on outter edge of the valve relief.

I took a forged piston that was damaged and went around with my tig welder and just started seeing how much heat it took to make things melt. The EASIEST place to get flow (melt) was right where the valve relief met the cylinder wall
